Welcome to the Great Plains Fire Science Exchange. A knowledge exchange consortium.

To assist land managers and the fire community to make sound decisions based on the best possible information. Through this information sharing process we hope to strengthen collaboration within the fire community in the region. Those who produce fire science as well as those interested in applying the science are all welcome in the exchange. Researchers, managers, land owners, and practitioners who work in operations are all welcome.

🔥 From the Canadian Prairies to the Great Plains!

What happens when fire practitioners, researchers, ranchers, and conservation partners come together? Knowledge gets shared, partnerships grow, and new ideas take root.

The Canadian Prairies Prescribed Fire Exchange recently shared a great recap of their experience at the 2026 Great Plains Fire Summit in Alva, Oklahoma, highlighting the power of collaboration across borders.

From the field tour in the Gyp Hills to conversations on urban prescribed fire, patch-burn grazing, woody encroachment, and the many ways prescribed fire can benefit working landscapes, the summit showcased the many faces of fire across the Great Plains and Canadian Prairies.

A big thank you to Renny Grilz and Roy Vera-Velez for joining us and sharing their perspectives! We’re proud to help create spaces where practitioners, researchers, land managers, ranchers, and Tribal partners can learn from one another. 🤝🔥
