Please join us in welcoming Dr. Rachel Miner to the K-State Veterinary Health Center as our new Clinical Assistant Professor of Small Animal Emergency Medicine! 🐾

A proud K-State alumna, Dr. Miner '23 earned both her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine and Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University. Before joining the VHC, she served as a mixed animal veterinarian with Riverbend Veterinary Services.

Dr. Miner’s professional interests include emergency medicine and the care of critically ill small animal patients, clinical teaching and mentorship, effective and empathetic client communication, and providing compassionate support to families during end-of-life care decisions.

When she's not caring for patients or mentoring future veterinarians, you'll likely find her watching College GameDay and cheering on the Wildcats and Chiefs as a devoted football fan. 🏈

Meet Pancake, the newest graduate of the Healthy Weight Clinic! She lost 25.4 lbs since enrolling in the program, and we are so proud of her and her progress. As you can see, she still never passes up a treat; everything in moderation!

Apoquel® can be life-changing for dogs when used as prescribed, but accidental ingestion by other pets can have serious consequences. Dr. Renee Schmid, senior veterinary toxicologist at Pet Poison Helpline and Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine gradute, recently shared a cautionary case involving a cat who required emergency treatment after consuming the medication.

A huge congratulations to Buck Patterson who graduated from our Healthy Weight Clinic this last summer!

Buck began his weight loss journey with us on July 3, 2025, weighing 144 lbs. Through the dedication of his amazing owners and the support of our Healthy Weight Clinic with Hill's, Buck has reached an incredible 87.6 lbs by July 28, 2026.

We certainly miss seeing Buck's sweet face each month, but we couldn't be more proud of everything he has accomplished. His transformation is a testament to the commitment and teamwork of everyone involved.

A heartfelt thank you to Buck's owners for staying consistent and committed to his diet and overall health. Your hard work has truly paid off!

Congratulations again, Buck—we're so proud of you!

The Veterinary Health Center is thrilled to welcome Dr. Stephanie Meilleur to the Wildcat team as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Small Animal Orthopedic and Soft Tissue Surgery.

A proud K-State alumna, Dr. Meilleur earned her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree here in 2012. She returns to the VHC after a career path spanning emergency and trauma care, sports medicine and canine rehabilitation. While deployed to Afghanistan with the United States Army Reserve, Dr. Meilleur provided veterinary care to working dogs throughout the country and taught emergency field care to U.S. and coalition medical personnel. That experience reinforced her longstanding passion for surgery and led her to complete a surgical internship, serve as an orthopedic research associate, and complete a small animal surgery residency at Michigan State University.

At K-State, Dr. Meilleur’s clinical and research interests include trauma, orthopedics, soft tissue surgery, sports medicine and rehabilitation, and advancing care for working and service dogs. Outside of veterinary medicine, she enjoys painting, running and playing with her dogs.”
