By the Executive Order of the President of the United States, the U.S. federal government has suspended almost all foreign assistance grants worldwide, pending a global review. As a result, the BOLD Program is suspended until further notice, and we are not taking or reviewing applications at this time. We will provide updates as soon as more information becomes available.

Omaha, you’ve been good to BOLD. ❤️🖤

Four weeks at UNO gave our BOLD Fellows a chance to learn about civic engagement in the classroom and see what it looks like in practice.

🏛️ They experienced civic leadership firsthand, meeting with local and state leaders, attending government meetings, and learning how decisions are made at the city, county, and state levels.

🤝🏽 They connected with Omaha communities, learning from nonprofits, community organizations, local leaders, and the people working on issues that directly affect their neighborhoods.

💡 They turned learning into action. Throughout their time at UNO, Fellows developed individual Action Plans around issues they care about, building the skills and strategies to take those ideas back to their own communities.

🌎 And along the way, Omaha became home—filled with new friendships, UNO traditions, neighborhood visits, cultural experiences, and plenty of memories outside the classroom.

Four weeks later, our Fellows leave Omaha with more than what they arrived with: new perspectives, new connections, and plans ready to put into action.

Welcome back to BOLD! 🇧🇦 ✈️ 🇺🇸

Our Fall 2026 BOLD Civic Engagement Fellowship is underway! We have officially wrapped up week one in Omaha with Fellows exploring UNO, experiencing Midwest hospitality in Omaha, and learning about the U.S. starting in the heartland.

Week 1 started with introductions and orientation to their new home and the program theme. They visited landmarks around Omaha including Gallup Inc., the Bob Kerrey Pedestrian Bridge, Lewis & Clark National Historical Trail Visitor Center, Joslyn Art Museum, and the Old Market.

Back at UNO, the focus shifted toward the work Fellows will carry with them throughout BOLD. They began shaping their individual Action Plans, heard directly from BOLD alumni about their own projects, and connected with local nonprofit youth leaders about civic work happening right here in Omaha.

And because BOLD isn’t all classroom time, the week ended on a high note—literally—with team bonding over a shared a meal in an American home and later climbing a high ropes course. Fellows also got their first view of the typical American college life through UNO’s welcome-back traditions during Durango Days. ❤️🖤

Seven days, a lot of Omaha, and one BOLD journey officially underway.

Here’s to Week 1! 📸

BOLD Fellows wrapped up their five-week U.S. experience with an unforgettable study tour in New York City and Washington, D.C.—exploring the cultural, historical, and political heart of the United States.

This capstone experience brought Fellows face-to-face with global diplomacy, civic leadership, and the everyday pulse of two of America’s most influential cities. It’s a powerful finale to a program built on leadership, service, and international collaboration.

In NYC, Fellows:
• Walked the streets of Manhattan with Dr. Lana Obradovic and Julie Jimenez
• Took in skyline views from the Empire State Building
• Navigated the subway like true New Yorkers
• Experienced the energy of Times Square and beyond

In D.C., they:
• Toured the U.S. Capitol and Supreme Court
• Visited the Library of Congress
• Reflected during a moving “D.C. After Dark” monuments tour
• Shared final presentations and a farewell meal with U.S. State Department representatives

The study tour reflects UNO’s mission to transform lives through inclusive learning and global engagement. By linking classroom concepts with real-world exposure, BOLD deepens Fellows’ commitment to leadership in their communities back home .

While fellows have returned home, the journey isn’t over. Fellows are inspired, equipped, and ready to put their action plans in motion. The ripple effect starts now.

📖 In the classroom, Fellows:
• Presented their Action Plan Presentations
• Visited a UNO class
• Tested their team-building skills and self-care techniques
• Learned about opportunities to come back to the US

🌆 In the community, they:
• Met with the Douglas County Commissioners, the Mayor’s Office, and Omaha City Council
• Explored the Nebraska Deterrence Lab
• Enjoyed a fall adventure at Vala’s Pumpkin Patch
• Cheered on the Omaha Lancers at a local hockey game
• A farewell lunch with final reflections and goodbyes to the Omaha team

💡 Why it matters: Week 4 tied together everything Fellows have learned—bridging theory and practice, leadership and service, reflection and action.
