After two attempts at an RN program, Taek Huh refused to give up on his dream of becoming a nurse.

Years later, while completing WSU's RN-BSN program, personal loss and overwhelming challenges nearly led him to quit just before graduation.

Then a faculty member asked a simple question:
"Are you okay?"

That conversation led Taek to seek counseling, changed the way he understands empathy, and inspired his next goal—becoming a psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner.

Cougs support Cougs.

Through Sept. 6, every donation to the Apple Cup Food Pantry Challenge helps provide food and basic necessities for WSU students. Gifts of any size count as one point toward WSU’s total.

Donations support WSU food pantries across the system, including the WSU Health Sciences Spokane Campus Pantry.

The Apple Cup rivalry is heating up again, and not just for the football game on Sunday, Sept. 6. For the third consecutive year, the community is invited to join a friendly competition with the University of Washington to raise money for food pantries at both universities. The Apple Cup Food Pantry Challenge will benefit all six campuses at WSU. https://news.wsu.edu/news/2026/08/27/apple-cup-rivalry-fuels-friendly-competition-for-food-pantry-challenge/

Two days of introductions, conversations, resources, advice, and a first look at the journey ahead.

Our newest Pre-Licensure BSN students wrapped up orientation on Friday across Spokane and Tri-Cities, connecting with classmates, faculty, staff, student ambassadors, and College leadership.

Along the way, students heard about professionalism and student success, learned about nursing and library resources, heard from Coug Nurses who have walked this path before them, and celebrated the announcement of four Rural Nursing Pathway scholarship recipients.

A special thank you to Zibby Merritt, MN ’19, for sharing her nursing journey and a reminder that even when the backpack gets heavy, the experience can still be worth carrying.

Now it’s time to put those scrubs to work.

Welcome to WSU College of Nursing, Coug Nurses.

Getting to medical appointments can be challenging for families whose children attend Spokane’s Logan Elementary School.

Sometimes, parents are juggling busy work schedules. Often, they don’t have access to reliable transportation.

WSU Health Logan Family Clinic opened in March with the goal of reducing obstacles to care while also providing training opportunities for Washington State University nursing students. Located on the grounds of Logan Elementary School, the clinic offers primary care services to children, their families, and the greater public.

“Schools tend to be community hubs,” says Sarah Fincham, WSU College of Nursing’s interim associate dean of academic affairs and director of faculty practice. “By being here, we’re trying to make health care more accessible and break down some of the barriers for parents. But we’re not just serving school families. Anyone can schedule a visit, and we also accept walk-ins.”
