Coug Nurses, meet your dean! 🐾

We’re thrilled to announce that Dr. Anne Mason has been named dean of the WSU College of Nursing, effective November 1.

A two-time WSU alumna, Washington native, and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, Dr. Mason has been part of our college since 2002. As interim dean, she launched the Rural Nursing Pathway, helping students across Washington earn their BSN without leaving their home communities.

“I look forward to building on our strong foundation, expanding access to nursing education, and preparing the next generation of nurse leaders.”

Weekly visits. Familiar faces. Community care.

WSU nursing students Shorooq Al Amri and Esther Roeber spent six weeks providing health education at Salish School of Spokane before helping deliver a vaccine clinic requested by the school.

“When it came time for vaccinations, the children already knew us, which helped them feel more comfortable throughout the process,” Al Amri said.

Their classmates also helped organize and staff October clinics at Family Promise and House of Charity, providing vaccines to 23 people.

Working alongside Spokane Regional Health District and community partners, Coug Nurses put their learning into practice while building relationships and responding to local needs.

More opportunities for future CougNurses! Beginning in spring 2027, students in South Puget Sound Community College’s evening nursing cohort will have the opportunity to join WSU’s RN-BSN Concurrent Enrollment Program.

Students can begin working toward their Bachelor of Science in Nursing at WSU while completing their nursing program at SPSCC.
