Congratulations, Dean Mason!

Coug Nurses, meet your dean! 🐾

We’re thrilled to announce that Dr. Anne Mason has been named dean of the WSU College of Nursing, effective November 1.

A two-time WSU alumna, Washington native, and psychiatric-mental health nurse practitioner, Dr. Mason has been part of our college since 2002. As interim dean, she launched the Rural Nursing Pathway, helping students across Washington earn their BSN without leaving their home communities.

“I look forward to building on our strong foundation, expanding access to nursing education, and preparing the next generation of nurse leaders.”

Congratulations, Dean Mason! 🎉

Throwback to a moment that helped shape WSU Spokane. 🐾

In 1989, Washington Gov. Booth Gardner signed legislation that created the campus we sit on today. What was once a rail yard and neglected land would go on to become the WSU Spokane campus.

More than three decades later, WSU Spokane is home to three health sciences colleges and continues to grow alongside the Spokane community.

Spotlight on WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine! 🌟

Over the last few weeks, we’ve been highlighting the different colleges that have a presence at , and today we’re wrapping up the series with a look at WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. 🩺

The Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine is Washington’s community-based medical school, preparing students to become healthcare leaders who are ready to serve communities across Washington and beyond.

One thing that makes the College of Medicine unique is that medical students don’t learn in just one place. Through WSU’s distributive model of medical education, MD students complete clinical experiences in hospitals and healthcare settings across the state. 🏥🗺️

💡 Did you know? The college was named after former Washington State University President Elson S. Floyd, who envisioned a WSU medical school and thriving health sciences hub in Spokane that would expand healthcare education and opportunities across the region.

In addition to the MD program, the College of Medicine offers programs in Nutrition and Exercise Physiology, Speech and Hearing Sciences, Health Administration and Leadership, Public Health, and Medical Ethics. It also offers graduate medical education and continuing medical education programs while supporting research that is making an impact in communities locally and around the world.

From students learning in communities across Washington to residents training through graduate medical education programs, and from faculty conducting research to providers delivering care, there’s a lot happening at WSU Elson S. Floyd College of Medicine. 🥼🐾

Spotlight on the WSU College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences! 🌟

We’re continuing our series featuring the colleges that make up our campus, and today we’re highlighting Washington State University College of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences. 💊 It’s also American Pharmacists Month, so it seemed like the perfect time to highlight the learning, researching and preparing for careers in pharmacy right here in Spokane!

🌟 Did you know? Pharmacy has been part of Washington State University for more than 135 years and was one of the university’s original areas of study and the longest running program on our campus.

Beyond the classroom, PharmD students get experience at more than 250 practice sites across Washington, California, Oregon and Idaho, as well as sites around the country and world. These experiences give students the chance to put what they’re learning into practice in a variety of health care settings. 💊🌎💊

Outside of the pharmacy degree, the college also offers graduate programs (PhD and Master’s) for students interested in pursuing research, or a Bachelor of Science degree designed to help students take their first steps towards future health care careers.

The college is home to research in areas like drug discovery, cancer, drug metabolism and precision medicine, with faculty and students working to develop new treatments, better understand how the body processes medications, and improve patient care for all . 🔬

Thank you to all the Coug pharmacists, student pharmacists, researchers, faculty and alumni actively bettering and shaping the world of health care and pharmacy every day. ❤️Happy American Pharmacists Month! 💊
