From FSU marketing student to Diablo/Freud Tools CEO, Russell Kohl (BS Marketing '88), a 2023 Wertheim College Alumni Hall of Fame inductee, knows a thing or two about building a successful career.

Kohl connected on Thursday night with students in our Business Living-Learning Community and shared lessons learned throughout the years before answering questions about the realities of leadership and professional growth.

We’re grateful to him for continuing to give back to the FSU community and for helping our first-year students envision what's possible in their own careers!

"I think being curious, eager and engaged is what really helped me succeed.”

That mindset shaped Liam Reiss’ summer internship with J.P. Morgan Asset Management. The student sought additional work, built connections across the company and approached each assignment as an opportunity to learn.

His summer included helping develop a winning asset management product concept and presenting the concept on a morning call to a live New York audience and thousands of colleagues by webcast. Naturally, he began the call with “Go Noles!”

“Liam made us all proud,” said Ash Williams (BS Management ’76; MBA ’78), a Wertheim College Alumni Hall of Fame member and vice chair of J.P. Morgan Asset Management.

Congratulations to Sam Kang, an assistant professor and Dean’s Emerging Scholar in the Department of Management and the recipient of our “We Choose Excellence” Award for September!

One colleague noted that Sam has supported the college’s preeminence in multiple ways, from advancing impactful research to helping students achieve success inside and outside the classroom.

He has, among other things, published six papers in academic journals in the past year and served as faculty advisor for the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) at FSU since 2022. During that time, several of his students have passed the SHRM-Certified Professional exam, a significant qualification in the field.

Thank you, Sam, for the lasting impact you’ve had on our college! 👏
