Have you ever noticed? 👀

The four columns at the West and Southeast entrances of the Herbert Wertheim Center for Business Excellence depict FSU’s iconic torches! The torches represent our university’s motto of Vires, Artes and Mores (Strength, Skill and Character), plus a fourth value: Legatum, or “legacy.”

As Dean Hartline explains, the added element was intentional: “a way to preserve” the idea of legacy within the building’s design. This detail stands among many hidden gems in the building’s architecture – stay tuned for more highlights!

enjoyed a splendid week in South Florida connecting with alumni and industry partners!
We kicked things off in West Palm Beach with an alumni and friends reception hosted by Ben Macfarland (B.S. Real Estate ’03) and SROA Capital.

The weekend continued with the Renegades of Real Estate Golf Classic at the Delray Dunes Golf & Country Club in Boynton Beach. The event raised more than $75,000 for the FSU Real Estate Center.

Thank you to the Renegades of Real Estate for their ongoing support of the FSU Real Estate Center and for all they do to champion our community!

Colleagues hail Bobby, an instructional technologist, for his “steady support, technical expertise and collaborative approach” in helping faculty “design, improve, and innovate for student engagement.” He supports the development of measurable course outcomes and helps our faculty create more engaging and effective Canvas experiences for students.

Our 2026 Energy School was a huge success!

’s Risk Management and Insurance program continued its tradition of hosting the Energy School Symposium — this year (and for the first time!) in the Herbert Wertheim Center for Business Excellence.

Risk management and claims professionals came together for a rewarding week of networking, timely conversations, real-world case studies and discussions on the challenges that abound in the energy industry. Participants also took some time to visit other parts of the campus, including the Westcott Foundation and the FSU President’s Box in Doak Campbell Stadium!

A special thanks to the event’s sponsors: AEGIS, EIM, Everen and NEIL and their representatives, who spent the better part of five days with us. Thanks also for participation from representatives of Alliant, AON, Berkshire Hathaway, Brown & Brown, Duke Energy, EIS, Exelon, Marsh, McGriff, Teco-Emera — talk about a lineup of heavy hitters! — and the Wertheim College.
