CrossingPoints is a multi-tiered postsecondary transition program in the College of Education at The University of Alabama and serves college-age students with intellectual
disabilities. CrossingPoints is funded in part by a 5-year grant by the Office of Postsecondary Programs of the US Department of Education and supported primarily the University of Alabama, Tuscaloosa City Schools, Tuscaloosa County School System, and the Community of Tuscaloosa. Tier 1 serves students with significant disabilities ages 18-21 years who are still receiving IDEA services. Tier 1 follows the Tuscaloosa City Schools and Tuscaloosa County school systems' Academic year calendar. CrossingPoints Tier 2, also known as the Summer Bridge Program, is a postsecondary pipeline program for college-age students with intellectual disabilities ages 18+ years from anywhere in the State of Alabama and beyond. Tier 3 is a three year, non-degree certificate program for students with intellectual disabilities from anywhere in the state of Alabama or beyond. Students enrolled in the Tier 3 program are full fledged UA students, who live in the dorm, enroll in UA classes, and participate in employment internships on and off campus.
