🎬 From stunt performer to veterinarian — Dr Lyddy van Gyen has never followed a conventional career path!

Before becoming a vet, Lyddy spent years performing stunts and working behind the camera in film and television. Along the way, she studied biochemistry and tropical ecology and volunteered with wildlife veterinarians overseas.

Today, she works in rural mixed practice, where continuing education remains a priority.

Having completed CVE's Thoracic, Abdominal and Musculoskeletal Diagnostic Imaging Distance Education courses, she's developed a more systematic approach to interpreting diagnostic images and greater confidence in her clinical decisions.

💬 “Before the courses, I would often second-guess myself. Now, I approach each case with a more systematic mindset.”

Her advice to fellow vets?

“If there is a topic you are even the slightest bit interested in, just go for it!”

🫀 And that's a wrap! Two weekends. Two sold-out workshops.

What a fantastic couple of weekends at CVE's Basic and Advanced Echocardiography Workshops in Sydney!

A huge thank you to our wonderful tutors, Dr Niek Beijerink and Dr Mariko Yata, and to all the veterinarians who joined us for two weekends of hands-on learning and practical skills development.

We're also incredibly grateful to our volunteer dogs and their generous owners, whose participation made these valuable learning experiences possible, with animal welfare and ethical practice at the heart of our training. 🐾

And a big thank you to Jey from Mediquip, our workshop sponsor, for the ongoing support!

When the nearest specialist surgeon is four hours away, every surgical skill matters.

For Dr Mitchell and her team in Gunnedah, regional NSW, referring a patient isn't always an option.

“These animals aren't stable enough to transfer. We have to do the surgery here.”

Determined to expand her surgical capabilities and provide the best possible care for her patients, Dr Mitchell enrolled in CVE's Surgery Distance Education course.

Since then, she's been putting new techniques into practice, particularly in wound management and surgical closure.

“We've used skin advancement and closure techniques to remove massive lumps and manage big wounds.”

But Dr Mitchell's story is about more than surgery. It's about her determination to build a better practice, support her team and expand what's possible for veterinary care in regional communities.

💬 “Just because we're in a small regional area doesn't mean we should be limited. We have the opportunity to do more and offer a bigger service.”
