Griffith College Limerick is delighted to congratulate Andrea Burke of the Sligo Park Hotel on winning the National Apprenticeship Award for Hospitality and Food Industry at the 2026 Apprentice of the Year Awards in the RDS, Dublin.

Andrea started at the Sligo Park Hotel as a food and beverage assistant and worked her way up to restaurant manager. Her studies included the Bar Management degree at Griffith College Dublin.

It’s a fantastic example of what a career in hospitality can look like. Congratulations, Andrea, and to everyone at the Sligo Park Hotel.

Our Bar Management Apprenticeship students took part in the Heineken Ahhh-cademy in Cork this week!

Jack Ryan, Lauren Meehan, Caitlin Core and Caoilin Casey took the win in the daily challenge at the VFI-organised training day on Heineken-backed products and how to serve them. Pictured in the first photo with Michael Beirne, Senior Channel Development Manager, Heineken Ireland Sales Limited.

All four are studying the BA in Bar Management Degree Apprenticeship at Griffith College Limerick, working in their pubs while they learn. What you pick up in class shows up behind the bar.

Climate Action Week | 12-18 October

Sustainability isn't just about large-scale projects. On a city campus, small actions can make a big difference.

At Griffith College Limerick, we're already taking steps to reduce our environmental impact, including:
☀️ Rooftop solar panels (providing 23% of our electricity needs so far in 2026)
💧 Water-saving devices
🪴 Plants in classrooms
♻️ Recycling facilities across campus
💡 Switching off lights and reducing unnecessary energy use

This Climate Action Week, we're setting a simple challenge:
Choose 1 action at college and 1 action at home that you can continue beyond this week.
Whether it's bringing a reusable bottle, printing less, taking shorter showers, cycling more, or reducing food waste, every small change counts.

From the Heroes Stage at WorldSkills Ireland 2026, meet Nicole, one of our Bar Management Apprentices at Griffith College Limerick!

Nicole Cranny didn't plan on a career in hospitality. She was studying psychology and media studies in the US when a part-time hospitality job turned into a real passion. Now, backed by her employer Midlands Park Hotel, she's completing her apprenticeship, and loving it.

"It's helped me within my role itself, but it has also helped me become a better team leader," Nicole told the Heroes Stage audience, "and given me a deeper understanding of how a successful bar operates."

Huge thanks to Midlands Park Hotel for investing in their team, and to Nicole for representing Griffith College Limerick so brilliantly on the national stage 👏

We were delighted to welcome students from the RALF Partnership | IBD Ireland to Griffith College Limerick today!

They had the opportunity to observe English language classes, take part in classroom activities and learn more about teaching and learning in an international environment. They also enjoyed exploring our Griffith College Limerick campus and getting a taste of student life in Limerick.

It was fantastic to see them engaging so actively with our classes and community. We hope they have a wonderful week exploring Limerick and enjoying everything the city has to offer, including a few tours with our friends at Witness Ireland!
