MIC and the Irish National Teachers' Organisation (INTO) are delighted to announce Limerick musician and harpist Aoife Connolly as the recipient of the 2026 Ashling Murphy Memorial Entrance Scholarship.

A first-year Bachelor of Education (B Ed) student at MIC, Aoife is an accomplished multi-instrumentalist, specialising in harp, concertina and fiddle. She has won multiple All-Ireland titles, including the U-18 All-Ireland Harp title at Fleadh Cheoil na Éireann in 2024. She was also one of eight finalists in the 2025 Bonn Óir Seán Ó Riada Competition for harp, broadcast live on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.

The Tipperary Festival of Science returns this November for its tenth year, bringing interactive workshops, science shows and family-friendly activities to venues across the county as part of Science Week 2026, which runs from 8–15 November.

Supported by Research Ireland and organised by MIC in collaboration with the Technological University of the Shannon Thurles and Tipperary County Council Library Service, the festival will once again bring science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) to schools, libraries, and communities throughout Tipperary.

Prof. Gary O'Brien, Vice President of Governance & Strategy at MIC, pictured with Mariah and Michaela Kennedy-Cuomo, granddaughters of Robert F. Mariah and Michaela were in Ireland to attend the 5th Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Autumn School, held in Bruff, Co. Limerick. Prof. O’Brien, whose research interests include American politics and foreign policy, joined Mariah for a panel discussion, “America Today: Congressional Elections Loom,” chaired by Daniel Mulhall, former Ambassador of Ireland to the United States.

MIC Thurles student Chloe Barrett has been appointed to the Speak Out Student Panel for the 2026/27 academic year, becoming one of just six students selected annually from higher education institutions across Ireland.

Speak Out is an anonymous disclosure tool currently used by 17 higher education institutions across Ireland. It enables students, staff and others within the higher education community to disclose experiences of harmful or abusive behaviour anonymously and access information about relevant support services.

MIC's Prof. Gary O'Brien, Vice President, Governance & Strategy, and Dr Róisín Ní Ghairbhí, Associate Professor of Irish, are among the contributors taking part in the programme.
