UNESCO Chair in Inclusive Physical Education,Sport, Fitness and Recreation The Chair uses education, training and research to advance towards inclusive societies using PE, sport, fitness, recreation as conduits to social justice.

Some of the major challenges of modern times are addressed by the Chair activities including healthy and active aging and tackling societal challenges such as inclusion and wellbeing. The Chair extends across such disciplines as education and training, adapted physical activity, social sciences, social entrepreneurship, pedagogy, assistive technologies, ICT, policy and development work.

Sports Focused Deaf Awareness Workshop

Deaf Sports Ireland, in partnership with the Irish Deaf Society, are delighted to host a Sports Focused Deaf Awareness Workshop designed specifically for professionals and volunteers working within the sports sector.

This engaging and interactive workshop aims to increase understanding of Deaf culture, improve communication with Deaf athletes, participants, coaches, officials, and supporters, and promote greater accessibility and inclusion across all areas of sport.

Who Should Attend?

Sports coaches and instructors
Club volunteers and committee members
Sports development officers
Referees and officials
Leisure centre and facility staff
National Governing Body representatives
Community sports leaders
Anyone involved in delivering sport and physical activity.

If you have experience of barriers or successes in accessing sport, physical activity or community participation, this is an important opportunity to make your voice heard.

Consultation closes 9 September. Submissions are invited via email, post, audio/video, online form, Braille and Irish Sign Language.

Did you know that the world's first validated exercise programme designed specifically for people with amputation and limb-difference is available online and completely free to access?
At Walk CIC, they support people with amputation and limb-difference to return to activity, improve fitness, and build confidence through evidence-based programmes developed with and for the community.
The UR Exercise Programme was created through seven years of research and co-design with amputees. The programme was successfully piloted, resulting in significant increases in participants' physical activity levels that were maintained even after completion.

The Federation of Irish Sport today proudly launches the 2026 Irish Sport Industry Awards.

The awards will take place in Dublin on Tuesday 19th May and will be hosted by broadcaster and journalist Sean O’Rourke. This will be the nineth staging of the awards which recognise the invaluable relationship between business and sport in Ireland. The Sport industry in Ireland supports 64,000 jobs, stimulates €3.3 billion in household spending, and generates €3.7 billion (GVA) gross value added to the Irish economy.


We are also delighted to announce the addition of two new categories this year:

Best Initiative to Promote Disability in Sport and Physical Activity.
This award is to recognise the support of lifelong participation for all in sport and physical activity. It is open to any organisation or enterprise either within the sport industry, or is using sport as a vehicle, which promotes increased inclusion, engagement and participation in sport and physical activity for those with a disability.

Best Initiative to Promote Sustainability in Sport and Physical Activity.
This award shall recognise sporting bodies or businesses in the sport or physical activity sector who display a comprehensive strategy to promote sustainability in sport or physical activities to mitigate against environmental impact of their operations or participation of their members.

Mary O’Connor, CEO of the Federation of Irish Sport said: “The Irish Sport Industry Awards are an important platform for recognising our member National Governing Bodies and Local Sports Partnerships valuable contribution to sport through their initiatives, collaborations and commercial activations. While also spotlighting new and emerging sports tech enterprise innovations, many of whom have gone on to excel in international markets.”
