UT Austin students spent May Term in Geneva exploring particle and nuclear physics at some of the world’s leading research facilities. Along the way, they conducted experiments in the Swiss Alps, developed their own research ideas, and, for some, turned the experience into research internships in Europe.

For recent graduate Julian Vaca (B.A. ’26), global learning became a calling to serve.

While studying in Japan, he discovered a passion for agriculture, community building, and cross-cultural connection. His experiences inspired him to bring that spirit of service back to Austin, where he led a student volunteering effort.

After honing his application with Texas Global’s Peace Corps Prep program, Vaca will take that passion to Fiji as a Peace Corps Volunteer, beginning the next chapter of a path he hopes to follow for life.

New research from the UT Jackson School of Geosciences suggests part of the mountain range formed in four rapid bursts, reshaping what scientists know about South America’s highest peaks. The findings build on nearly 15 years of collaboration with Argentine research partners.

This summer, 74 participants from 6 countries joined us on the Forty Acres for the 2026 Global Summer Institute (GSI)! 🤘 🌎

Over four weeks, they experienced life as Longhorns — learning from The University of Texas at Austin and Texas Global English Language Center faculty by day and discovering Austin and Texas after class.

GSI gave participants a firsthand look at studying in the U.S. while bringing their coursework to life outside of the classroom.
