Tiny particles. Big research questions. UAB doctoral student Olga Khaybullina has earned the highest student honor from the American Chemical Society's Division of Environmental Chemistry for her nanoplastics research.

These microscopic plastic particles can enter our bodies through the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. But where do they go once they're inside?

Olga and her research team developed a new way to track nanoplastics during pregnancy, helping scientists better understand where these particles travel and laying the foundation for future research into their potential health effects.

It's innovative research tackling questions that matter for future generations. Congratulations, Olga!

Join us Saturday, Nov. 14, at Railroad Park for the UAB Veterans Day 5K, honoring those who have served while supporting the next generation of military-connected Blazers.

Since 2023, this Birmingham tradition has raised more than $33,000 to support UAB veteran and dependent students, including emergency assistance for those facing unexpected financial challenges.

Congratulations to Jason Mbila and Morgan Bias, who were crowned Mr. and Ms. UAB during halftime of UAB Football’s Homecoming victory!

For 45 years, this UAB tradition has recognized students who go above and beyond in academics, leadership, service and Blazer spirit. Jason and Morgan will each receive a $2,500 scholarship and serve as UAB ambassadors throughout the coming year.

We're also celebrating first alternates John David Slowikowski and Manasa Vadapalli!

UAB's new Shelby Biosciences Research Building is officially open, bringing together world-class researchers from the Heersink School of Medicine and the College of Arts and Sciences.

More than an investment in research space, this new facility is an investment in collaboration, discovery and the potential to improve lives across Alabama and beyond.

By bringing biomedical scientists, behavioral researchers and clinical investigators together, UAB is creating new opportunities to turn scientific discoveries into better ways to prevent, diagnose and treat disease.
