🥳🍬What a fun way to spend an afternoon! Yesterday, CAS Human Resources treated the College’s staff to some tasty treats, t-shirts and co****le during the Staff Appreciation Party. Cruella de Vil and some dalmatians even made an appearance ahead of Halloween!🎃

Tiny particles. Big research questions. UAB doctoral student Olga Khaybullina has earned the highest student honor from the American Chemical Society's Division of Environmental Chemistry for her nanoplastics research.

These microscopic plastic particles can enter our bodies through the air we breathe, the food we eat and the water we drink. But where do they go once they're inside?

Olga and her research team developed a new way to track nanoplastics during pregnancy, helping scientists better understand where these particles travel and laying the foundation for future research into their potential health effects.

It's innovative research tackling questions that matter for future generations. Congratulations, Olga!

CAS students, faculty, staff, and alumni spent the week Blazing the Seas in true Homecoming fashion. From our student Patio Parrrty and the Gurney Derby to the Homecoming Parade and a legendary comeback on the football field, it was a week filled with Blazer spirit and unforgettable memories.

With the academic year in full swing, several CAS faculty members recently took time to focus on their well-being during an art therapy session. Hosted by Associate Dean John K. Moore and the CAS Dean’s Office, in partnership with the Employee Assistance and Counseling Center, the session featured a “self-care tag” activity that encouraged participants to reflect on the habits and practices that help them be their best selves.

Brynn Welch, Ph.D., professor in the Department of Philosophy, is the College's recipient of the 2026 President’s Award for Excellence in Teaching! “The magic that happens in her classrooms overflows into all of our hallways, classrooms and offices,” a colleague wrote in her nominating letter. “It sends us engaged, well-trained, passionate students who are a joy to teach, and who found their love of philosophy through Dr. Welch’s truly singular approach to college education.”

Dr. Welch was recognized by Interim Dean Vohra during a recent CAS Community Meeting for receiving both the CAS Dean’s Award for Excellence in Teaching and the President’s Award. Go, Blazer!

Effective October 1, 17 CAS faculty members representing 12 departments earned promotions in recognition of their outstanding research, teaching and service. Four of those faculty members were also awarded tenure. Congratulations, Blazers!
