Last week we got our first look at the Charger Center as the panels began going up on Tuesday, Oct. 27, exactly two months after the groundbreaking ceremony. The Charger Center will be a 70,204-square-foot facility that will serve as the new home for Sandburg’s athletic programs and support additional academic and community use. Initial work on the $35 million project began in August. Visit our Flickr page for more images and visit Sandburg[.]edu/campusexpansion to stay up to date on our construction projects

Next Wednesday, Sandburg will recognize a longtime community leader as part of a Veterans Day event.

A Veterans Day Tribute to Lomac Payton will take place at 6 p.m. Nov. 11 in the Graham Health System S+T Center Atrium on the Galesburg campus. A veteran of the Korean War, Payton is also a former member of the Galesburg City Council.

The event, coordinated by the Sandburg student leadership organization Men of Distinction, will honor Payton for his decades of service, leadership and contributions to the community. The program will feature tributes from community and government leaders as well as a special lifetime-of-service presentation.

Dinner for the event will be catered by Tres Café. Attendees are asked to RSVP by Nov. 4.

Sandburg students, faculty and staff celebrated Halloween with the annual costume contest last Thursday in the Student Center. Participants collected individual and group award tickets, and faculty members competed in their own category. Congratulations once again to the Dental Hygiene faculty, making it a 3️⃣-peat!

A few scenes from the Sandburg Foundation's annual scholarship reception last Thursday evening at The Vault. Wonderful to see the donors and scholarship recipients gather under the same roof for an evening of fellowship and celebration. 💙❤️

Sandburg put up the numbers last Thursday during the ImpactLife blood drive. 🙌 We had a predetermined goal of 16 whole-blood and 1 double donations, but are thrilled to report back that we in fact had 20 whole-blood and 2 double donations! All of this was also from 10 first-time donors. Way to go, Chargers! 🩸💉🎉

It's been quite a sight seeing the Charger Center walls begin going up this week. Nature, however, decided to flex this morning and gave quite a show at 7:30 a.m.

Thank you to Mick Webster of Estes Construction for the fantastic photos! 🌈🌅🏗
