Iowa Law’s talented student advocates recently argued in the Van-Oosterhout Baskerville Final Showcase at Levitt Auditorium before a distinguished panel of judges. Students presented a fictional domestic law case, United States v. Gary Price, focused on due process and evidence disclosure during plea bargaining.

Professor Sean Sullivan was appointed to the Jon and Sarah Fister Chair in Law and Economics during a University of Iowa College of Law Investiture Ceremony on April 24. Sullivan joined the College of Law in 2017 after serving as an antitrust lawyer for the Federal Trade Commission and is heavily involved in legal and economics scholarship.

Jon Fister (67BS, 71JD) and his late wife, Sarah, established the position with their 2024 and 2025 philanthropic gifts. Fister spent 21 years in private practice and served as the chief judge of Iowa's First Judicial District.

The Iowa Law Criminal Defense Coalition and Federal Criminal Defense Clinic co-sponsored a panel on supervised release.

More than 50 students attended as Karlyn Simcox moderated and Professor Guernsey outlined the legal landscape of post-release supervision. Four individuals who have served or are currently serving supervised release shared their lived experiences, alongside a representative from REFORM Alliance discussing the pending bipartisan Safer Supervision Act.
