The Department of Molecular Biosciences at the University of Kansas strives to understand the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying fundamental biological processes through research and to disseminate knowledge through education and training. We are an interdisciplinary group of outstanding faculty who work closely with postdoctoral fellows, graduate students and undergraduates to investiga

te fundamental biological problems on all levels from molecules to cells to organisms. We carry out cutting edge research in a wide range of areas including biochemistry, biophysics and structural biology, bioinformatics, cancer biology, genetics and genomics, immunology, microbiology and virology, molecular, cellular and developmental biology, and neuroscience.

KU molecular biosciences researcher Ilya Vakser and colleagues at partner institutions will use a three-year grant from the National Science Foundation to expand knowledge of macromolecular systems. The grant also offers an opportunity for graduate and undergraduate students to work on projects that apply AI to key problems in molecular biology.
