When Lauren Morse attended the Healthcare Summer Camp in 2023, she got a closer look at the healthcare career paths available at South.

Now enrolled at the University of South Alabama and applying to Radiologic Sciences, Morse says the camp helped shape her interest in healthcare and showed her the support available to students in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions.

Her goal is to earn her bachelor’s degree in Radiologic Sciences and specialize in Computed Tomography.

For 50 years, the Department of Radiologic Sciences in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions has prepared compassionate, highly skilled imaging professionals to serve patients across Alabama, the Gulf Coast region and beyond.

The department’s 50th anniversary celebration brought together alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends to honor a legacy that began with its first class in 1976 and continues through the graduates serving in healthcare communities today.

Congratulations to Dr. Mohini Kamra, assistant professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, on receiving the Innovation in Learning Center’s new faculty award for Most Engaged New Faculty.

Dr. Kamra joined the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions in August 2025. Her research focuses on women’s health, and she is committed to teaching, mentoring and engaging students as they build research experience and critical thinking skills.

This morning, Student Government Association senators representing the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions hosted a fall semester meet-and-greet in the Allied Health Building lobby.

Students stopped by for coffee, cold brew drinks and pastries while connecting with their SGA senators, learning more about student government and celebrating the start of a new semester in the Covey College.

Welcome back, Allied Health!

Fall orientation is underway in the Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions. Last week, we welcomed students in Physical Therapy and Speech-Language Pathology as they prepared to begin the next step in their programs at the University of South Alabama.

It is always exciting to see students back on campus and ready for a new semester of learning, hands-on training and preparing for careers in healthcare.

The Pat Capps Covey College of Allied Health Professions was out in the community today as faculty from our Department of Emergency Medical Services visited St. Paul’s Episcopal School to help members of the athletics staff refresh lifesaving skills and strengthen emergency preparedness.

It was a great example of how the Covey College connects classroom expertise with community needs, while helping support safer environments for students and athletes.

Congratulations to Rena Pankajbhai Bhadani, an international undergraduate student working in the Kamra Lab, on receiving the 2026 Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship.

Rena is working with Dr. Mohini Kamra in the Department of Biomedical Sciences, where her research focuses on identifying ways to specifically target fat cells, with the goal of developing innovative therapies for postpartum obesity.

Through the 10-week SURF program, Rena gained hands-on experience in biomedical laboratory techniques and plans to continue her research in the field of women’s health.
