🎃 Our Halloween Costume event goes from 4 - 6 pm today here at the Bodwell Center!

Students, staff and faculty are invited to come pick out a Halloween costume or elements of one! We have all sorts of costume sets... and random accessories too, they're just waiting to be crafted into a complete costume!

The Black Bear Exchange will also be open from 3-5 pm, and folks are encouraged to check out clothing there as well, if needed for a costume. All students and staff are *always* eligible to shop for clothing at the BBE.

🆕 There's a NEW sign-up sheet for Challenger Learning Center of Maine's Annual Spud Drive!

Our office works with the Challenger Learning Center directly so that UMaine students and staff can sign up to volunteer without having to create a log-in to another website. It is part of our mission to create low-barrier opportunities for Black Bears to provide community service work in-and-around Orono.

Volunteer opportunities are also always listed on their website: https://www.astronaut.org/volunteer

Coming to the Homecoming Football Game??? Bring some non-perishable food and help us to fight hunger!

Black Bear Fans, our partners at UCU are hosting a food drive benefiting the Black Bear Exchange, an important resource for students and families on campus. If you’re able, please bring a non-perishable food item to donate at their table during our Homecoming game on October 24th! Every donation makes a difference!

You can also support the cause online at https://campaignforendinghunger.org/ucu/ today!

🐶🐈 THANK YOU to everyone who showed up to our Dog and Cat Toy Making Workshop last Thursday! Shouts out especially to Kappa Sigma and the Alpine Ski Team Club for showing up in numbers! 👏

Today, the Bodwell Center will also be working with students and staff of the Social Work Department to make more pet toys for donation to local shelters. We are so excited to send them out!

🎃 Our next mending event will be a little different -- students are invited to the Bodwell Center on Thursday, 10/29 from 4 - 6 pm, to 'shop' for a free Halloween costume! We will have a range of free costume sets, random items, and materials to construct home-made costumes. We'll also have sewing machines and mending supplies on site and ready to use, for folks to get started on any necessary alterations.

RSVP is not required, but greatly appreciated! Sign up via the link in our bio, and click on the spreadsheet that says, "Bodwell Center Workshops: FALL 2026 -- Volunteer Sign Up".
