🌟 Honors Student Spotlight: Alivia Aschenbach 🌟

From student advocate to undergraduate researcher, Honors student Alivia Aschenbach is turning her passion for healthcare into meaningful research and real-world impact. 🧠💙

A psychology and Spanish double major, Alivia conducts concussion research in UNR’s Neuromechanics Laboratory and has presented her work twice at the American College of Sports Medicine Annual Conference with support from the Honors College Research Travel Grant.

Her journey is a great example of how Honors students take their learning beyond the classroom through research, mentorship, advocacy, and opportunities to make a difference in our community. 🐺✨

Today’s spotlight is on Honors College student John Henkel, a Computer Science and Engineering major, who spent his summer in Germany through the DAAD RISE Germany internship program! 🇩🇪

“Through the DAAD RISE Germany program, I conducted research at Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich on robotic perspective-taking. In this project, I helped enable robots to correctly determine which object a person is referring to when interpreting different spatial commands. For instance, if a human says, ‘Give me the apple on my left,’ the robot must interpret ‘left’ from the speaker’s perspective instead of its own. Furthermore, the robot must account for occlusion so that its reasoning only considers objects that are actually visible to the human.”
