rg, VA, Spartanburg, SC, Auburn, AL, and Monroe, LA, VCOM has graduated over 4,100 new physicians since its founding in 2001, with over 69% going into primary care specialties such as family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics and obstetrics/gynecology. VCOM has become one of the largest medical schools in the country, yet each campus maintains a nurturing small private college atmosphere for the student. VCOM partners with many community-based hospitals for clinical rotations throughout Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Florida, Alabama and Louisiana. The College is known for its national award-winning programs in primary care and global medical outreach, as well as a sports medicine department caring for athletes at Virginia Tech, Auburn University, University of Louisiana Monroe and Radford University. Just months after being named VCOM-Carolinas’ Global Health Scholar, Robert Blake Eysler has received more recognition for his work in global health.

Eysler, member of the Class of 2027, has now been named the 2026 Global Health Scholar of the Year by the American Association of Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine (AACOM), selected as the sole recipient from 73 nominees representing colleges of osteopathic medicine across the country. He is the first student from VCOM to receive the award.

When Tal Carmy-Bennun ‘29, joined VCOM-Carolinas' medical outreach team in Honduras this summer, she set her sights on a new glaucoma screening effort aimed at identifying eye disease before it leads to permanent vision loss.
