The University Library received a donation of six boxes containing more than 500 issues of the Chicago Edition of the satirical newspaper "The Onion." The issues, published between 1998 and 2013, will be available for research at the History, Philosophy, and Newspaper Library.

The Illinois Newspaper Project hopes to eventually provide digital availability of these issues in the Illinois Digital Newspaper Collections.

Join us next Saturday for community zine making with the University Library at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign! The theme will be "My Culture is not Your Costume," and participants will collaborate on zine pages that will be digitized by the library and printed into a zine. Supplies will be provided, and no experience is needed! There will also be food, music, and community!

The Library is honored to receive the David and Charlotte Bruner African and Caribbean Literature Collection, a gift that will help broaden access to voices and perspectives that have shaped global literature. The collection will support teaching, research, and discovery for generations of students and scholars.

Beginning October 19, Grainger Engineering Library Information Center will introduce updated evening access procedures designed to support a safe, secure, and comfortable environment for our users. At 7 p.m., entry will transition to i-card swipe access. One entrance (the north doors on Springfield Avenue) and the third floor will close at that time, and anyone using the third floor is welcome to continue studying or working elsewhere in the building.

Today marks the opening of a new University Archives exhibit celebrating the 150th anniversary of the Morrow Plots, the longest-running agricultural experiment in the United States. 🌽📚 Explore rare photographs, historic records, and stories that highlight the plots’ lasting impact on agricultural research and innovation at Illinois. Visit Room 220 of the Main Library throughout October.

⚡ It’s alive... and on display! ⚡

The University of Illinois Rare Book & Manuscript Library's new exhibit, “'I could people the hours with creations': Celebrating Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein," is now haunting the RBML through May 14, 2027.

The exhibit, titled “‘I could people the hours with creations’: Celebrating Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein”, will be on display in the RBML until May 14, 2027.

After the exhibit closes, the book will be available to the public, who can request to view it at the RBML until 2028, when it will be moved to the Archives and Special Collections Building upon completion of its renovation.

Lynne Thomas, the exhibit’s curator and head of the RBML, said the book was purchased for $750,000 using donor and endowment funds, including a gift from prominent alumni James and Lionelle Elsesser.
