🌟📚Two COM Faculty Members Named Among the World’s Top 2% Most-Cited Scientists 2026 by Stanford University

🏫The Department of Media and Communication (COM) at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK) is proud to announce that Professor Guanxiong Huang and Ki Joon Kim, have been named to the Stanford/Elsevier Top 2% Scientists List for 2026, announced in October.

🎖️Professor Kim has received this recognition for seven consecutive years, since the list was first released in 2020. He said, “Although I am based in a media and communication department, I have ranked 2nd or 3rd in Asia every year in the field of human factors (psychology and cognitive sciences). Such recognition would not have been possible without our Department's strong support for interdisciplinary research that extends beyond the traditional boundaries of communication. I look forward to contributing further to CityUHK's research excellence.”

🎊Professor Huang said, “I’m deeply honoured to receive this recognition. I would like to thank my mentors, collaborators, students, and the many brilliant fellow researchers whose work has inspired me. 🏫Delegation Visit by Boston University

📚On October 14, 2026, Professor Sung-Un Yang, Department Chair of the Department of Mass Communication, Advertising, and Public Relations at Boston University, discussed opportunities for potential collaboration on postgraduate programs with representatives from CityUHK COM, including Associate Head Professor Crystal Jiang, Chair Professor Shuhua Zhou, and Professor Edmund Lee, the Programme Leader of the MA in Communication and New Media.

Prof. Marko M. Skoric Participates in Bay of Bengal Conversation 2026

📚Associate Professor Marko M. Skoric of the Department of Media and Communication at City University of Hong Kong participated as a featured speaker at the fifth Bay of Bengal Conversation (BoBC) 2026, held 3–5 October at the Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka.

🌎Organised by the Centre for Governance Studies and inaugurated by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the premier regional forum brought together more than 200 speakers from over 100 countries under the theme “Fragments, Frontiers and Futures: Navigating Power, Technology and Trust in a World Rewritten.”

📔Prof. Skoric contributed to two key sessions: “Can Algorithms Build Trust? Rethinking State Capacity in the Age of AI” and “Media, Misinformation and Democratic Resilience,” the latter alongside Barrister Shihab Uddin Khan, Deputy Attorney General of Bangladesh. His research on new media, civic engagement, and the societal impacts of digital technologies enriched discussions on public trust, algorithmic governance, and democratic resilience across the Bay of Bengal region.

🎉COM Chair Professor Yi-Hui Christine Huang Receives CityUHK Presidential Research Excellence Award🏆

Professor Yi-Hui Christine Huang, a Chair Professor in the Department of Media and Communication at City University of Hong Kong, received the prestigious CityUHK Presidential Research Excellence Award 2025 at the award ceremony held on 2 October 2026, in acknowledgment of her exceptional scholarly contributions.

📚Announced in May 2026, Professor Huang was selected as one of the recipients of this esteemed award for CityUHK Scholars. The Selection Committee acknowledged her exceptional research in the field of communication over the past three decades, focusing particularly on public trust in health, environmental risks, online scams, and other pressing social issues. Her remarkable efforts also earned her the title of Research Grants Council (RGC) Senior Research Fellow in 2024, marking her as the first communication scholar to receive this distinction.

Prof Huang said, “I am deeply grateful to the University for this recognition and for its strong support. This recognition is a significant milestone for me and my research team. It not only reflects more than 30 years of focus and perseverance on trust research, but also reminds us that meaningful research often takes time. I hope our research can provide valuable insights for society.”
