The region’s first such institution, the SCM was founded to nurture a new generation of interdisciplinary artists and creative media talents.

The City University of Hong Kong School of Creative Media (SCM) was founded in 1998 to nurture a new generation of interdisciplinary artists and creative media professionals, and to develop new ideas and technologies for the creative industries in Hong Kong, mainland China and abroad. State-of-the-art teaching and research facilities are brought together in a unique architectural setting designed by Daniel Libeskind that is a hub for innovation and discovery in Asia. SCM students are trained across disciplines spanning computer science, fine arts, visual design, creative writing, cultural studies and digital technology; a pedagogy that bridges the boundaries between art and science and integrates traditional and new media. The school values applied creativity, cultural awareness, and critical thinking as much as business sense and entrepreneurial success. SCM's internationally recruited faculty members are amongst the foremost artists and researchers in the field, and they bring a global perspective to the school.

🗣️ Guest Lecture | Material Metamorphosis: Stop-Motion Animation, Sculpture and Narrative in the Work of Izabela Plucińska ✨

Join renowned Polish animation director Prof. Izabela Plucińska for an evening of clay animation, where surrealism and black humour meet stories of human relationships. She will discuss her films and creative approach to working with clay, and explore how physical transformation can shape moving images and storytelling.

🗣️About the speaker
Prof. Izabela Plucińska is a Polish animation director based in Berlin. Her film Jam Session (2005) won a Silver Bear at the Berlin International Film Festival. Her other films include Sexy Laundry (2015), Portrait of Suzanne (2019), winner of the Golden Dragon at Krakow, and Joko(2024), adapted from Roland Topor and awarded the Grand Prix at ANIMATOR in Poznań. She studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Łódź and the Łódź Film School, where she also completed her doctorate in animation. She is a Professor at the Academy of Art in Szczecin, Poland.

💬📷 Symposium | Imagining Photography: Symposium on 200 Years of Photography

A collaboration between the School of Creative Media, CityUHK, Goethe-Institut Hong Kong and the Consulate General of France in Hong Kong and Macau. Supported by the Franco-German Cultural Fund, this symposium brings together artists, scholars, curators, photojournalists and researchers to reflect on how images are changing. It runs alongside the workshop programme 200 Years of Photography: Images, Representation and AI.

For two centuries, photography has shaped how we see, record, remember and understand the world. What began as a light-sensitive chemical process now spans digital manipulation, CGI, virtual environments, simulation and AI-generated images. The symposium unfolds across three sessions: From Photography to Synthography, Image and Archive, and The Faithful Image.
