On October 26, 𝐇𝐊𝐔 𝐌𝐁𝐀 𝐓𝐞𝐜𝐡 𝐃𝐚𝐲 2026 — "𝐀𝐈 𝐢𝐧 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬: 𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭'𝐬 𝐇𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐍𝐨𝐰?" — brought together industry leaders from tech giants such as 𝐆𝐨𝐨𝐠𝐥𝐞, 𝐀𝐦𝐚𝐳𝐨𝐧, 𝐀𝐥𝐢𝐛𝐚𝐛𝐚, 𝐁𝐲𝐭𝐞𝐃𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞, 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐞𝐧𝐨𝐯𝐨, along with start-ups, investors and the HKU MBA community, to explore AI breakthroughs and their impact on business today.

𝐒𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐧 𝐓𝐢𝐩𝐧𝐢𝐬 welcomed everyone and kicked off a day of learning and exchange.

𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐡𝐚𝐞𝐥 𝐘𝐚𝐧 took the audience through ByteDance's AI journey — from recommendation algorithms to an AI-native powerhouse — and zoomed in on its AI applications in Hong Kong.

The first panel, "Embracing the AI Era: What Talent Do We Need?" moderated by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐖𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐠, featured 𝐀𝐧𝐝𝐲 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐰, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐮𝐞𝐫𝐠𝐞𝐧 𝐑𝐚𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐥, 𝐇𝐚𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐧 𝐖𝐚𝐧𝐠 and 𝐓𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐢𝐞 𝐋𝐨. The discussion explored how AI transforms roles, redefines the entry-level, and why the future belongs to self-directed learners.

𝐄𝐫𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐭 𝐌𝐚 delivered the second keynote: being the best isn't enough when the crown keeps shifting. Lasting winners build moats — founder magnetism, workflow integration, proprietary data, and regulatory barriers.

The second panel, "AI Startups & Investment: Bubbles, Moats, and Opportunities", moderated by 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟. 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐧 𝐋𝐚𝐢, brought together 𝐉𝐢𝐦𝐦𝐲 𝐍𝐠, 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐞𝐫𝐭 𝐋𝐚𝐦, 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐧 and 𝐇𝐞𝐧𝐫𝐲 𝐖𝐨𝐧𝐠. The conversation cut through the hype — the AI bubble has substance, distribution is a key moat, and Hong Kong is a launchpad to global markets.

Between sessions, the real magic happened in the hallways — conversations, connections, and ideas that no camera can capture.

This academic year, Cyberport continues its collaboration with the HKU MBA Programmes to co-host the five-week ‘Entrepreneurial Incubation Lab’ course, equipping future entrepreneurs and innovation leaders with the essential mindsets and skills.

The course was led by Professor Jack P**n, a member of the Cyberport Entrepreneurship Committee Advisory Group (ECAG), and featured three Cyberport incubatees — Farmio, InstaAgent, and World of Neopets. Through real-world entrepreneurial case studies, discussions of market challenges, and practical experiences, students gained deep insights into the critical decisions and growth journeys involved in entrepreneurship. Ir Eric Chan, Chief Public Mission Officer at Cyberport, and his team also engaged with the students, sharing the latest industry trends and emerging entrepreneurial opportunities within Hong Kong’s Innovation and Technology (I&T) ecosystem.
