📢 [Upcoming Event] CAPSIC Inaugural Joint Symposium 2026: Reimagining Serious Illness Care Across the Care Continuum

As Hong Kong’s population rapidly ages, how can we ensure every person living with serious illness receives the right care, at the right time, in the right place?

Organised by Collaboratory to Advance Person-Centred Serious Illness Care (CAPSIC) in partnership with The Hong Kong Geriatrics Society, The Hong Kong College of Family Physicians, and The Hong Kong Society of Palliative Medicine, this landmark gathering brings together global leaders, local policymakers, clinicians, academics, and community innovators to catalyse a systemic shift toward person-centred, integrated care for people living with serious illness.

Join us as we reimagine the future of serious illness care for Hong Kong and beyond.

We were delighted to host a full-house audience during our admissions sessions. Attendees received invaluable insights from our Dean, Programme Director, and Deputy Programme Director, as well as from our student representatives and alumni. 🌟 recently hosted a seminar titled “Pandemic Response: What Have We Learnt From Experience?” by Professor Maria Zambon, Head of Respiratory Virology at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA), Director of the UK WHO National Influenza Centre, and Chair of the International Society for Respiratory Viruses (ISRV), London, UK.

Professor Zambon provided a comprehensive overview on global pandemic preparedness, illustrating how lessons learned from previous influenza pandemics informed the response to COVID-19. She highlighted the critical role of early direct-acting antivirals, large-scale adaptive platform trials (such as RECOVERY and REMAP-CAP), point-of-care "test-and-treat" pathways, and agile research infrastructure in strengthening preparedness for future public health emergencies.

The seminar commenced with welcoming remarks by Professor Hui-Ling Yen, Interim Director and Professor of , and concluded with an engaging Q&A session, during which participants exchanged valuable insights on pandemic preparedness and response.

【In the Media】Led by Professor Chung Pui-hong, Assistant Dean (Health Sciences Programmes & Admissions) at & Programme Director of BASc(GHD), the programme integrates rigorous academic training with compulsory overseas or local field placements. Students gain hands-on experience at United Nations organisations, international NGOs, charitable foundations and academic institutions. The placement not only enriches student’s job experiences, but develops the skills and global perspectives needed to address pressing health and development challenges. Graduates have pursued careers in international organisations, government bodies, and multinational corporations, making meaningful contributions to the field of global health.

Congratulations to Prof. Sophia Chan 陳肇始教授 on receiving the Inaugural HKU Impact Award 2026! 👏

We are delighted to celebrate Professor Sophia Chan, Professor and Director of the HKU Primary Health Care Academy, on being named a recipient of the inaugural HKU Impact Award 2026 at . 🏆 The award recognises members of the HKU community who have successfully translated knowledge, research and innovation into meaningful societal impact.

As Hong Kong’s first nurse to serve as Secretary for Food and Health, Professor Chan has played a pivotal role in translating health services research into public policy and advancing preventive, community-based primary healthcare across Hong Kong. Her leadership and dedication have made a lasting impact on healthcare systems and population health.

This well-deserved recognition reflects her commitment to improving health and well-being through evidence-based policy, innovation, and public service.

From Nairobi to Hong Kong: the WHS Regional Meeting baton passes on 🌏

Following this year’s WHS Regional Meeting in Nairobi, Kenya, we look ahead to Hong Kong, China, in 2027. At the Opening Night, WHS International President 2025–2026 Lukoye Atwoli passed the baton to incoming WHS International President Chak Sing Wallace Lau, marking the transition to the next Regional Meeting.

Hosted each year by a member of the WHS Academic Alliance, the Regional Meetings bring regional priorities to the forefront of global health discussions. They connect perspectives across regions and sectors, strengthen partnerships, and create space for collaboration on shared health challenges.

Next stop: Hong Kong, China.
