The Faculty of Humanities aspires to be a leading faculty in humanities education by contributing to the advancement and dissemination of knowledge. 為熱烈歡迎新生，人文學院的各碩士課程為學生舉辦了迎新日，正式為新學年拉開序幕。

迎新日透過一系列互動環節，讓同學們深入了解課程的學習要求與目標，並對未來的學術生活建立初步認識。活動涵蓋學習資源與支援服務的介紹，以及對各課程特色的深入探索，旨在幫助新生從入學伊始便能建立信心、融入環境並拓展人際網絡。

Faculty of Humanities 2026/27 Master Programme Orientation Day

To welcome our new students, the master programme in the Faculty of Humanities organised an orientation, officially marking the commencement of the new academic year.

The orientation day featured a series of interactive sessions, allowing students to gain a deeper understanding of their programme's learning requirements and objectives and to become familiar with their upcoming academic life. The event covered introductions to learning resources and support services, as well as explorations of each programme's features. It was designed to help new students build confidence, integrate into the environment, and expand their interpersonal networks from the very beginning of their studies.

碩士課程迎新活動: 嶺南中醫藥文化講座及香囊工作坊

教大人文學院為全院碩士課程同學舉辦迎新活動，由中國語言學系講師 I 金夢瑤博士主講「百草迎新．嶺南中醫藥文化講座及香囊工作坊」。活動吸引逾百位同學踴躍參與，齊聚一堂探索中醫藥文化與本草養生智慧。

講座期間，金博士深入淺出地介紹嶺南中醫藥文化及日常養生知識，並示範多個有助舒緩疲勞、放鬆身心的保健穴位，讓同學掌握實用的健康管理技巧。隨後，同學更親手製作兩款專屬香囊，在認識中藥材特性的同時，體驗傳統中醫藥文化的獨特魅力。

活動現場氣氛熱烈，同學們積極參與互動，投入製作過程，不僅收穫養生知識，更透過親身體驗感受中醫藥文化的博大精深，為新學年注入健康與活力。

Master Programme Orientation Activity: Chinese Medicine Culture & Sachet Workshop

The Faculty of Humanities held an orientation activity for master programme students. It was hosted by Dr Jin Mengyao, Lecturer I from the Department of Chinese Language Studies, and titled “Welcoming the New Year with Hundred Herbs: Lingnan Chinese Medicine Culture Lecture and Sachet Workshop.” More than 100 students attended to explore traditional Chinese medicine culture and the wisdom of herbal wellness.

During the lecture, Dr Jin introduced Lingnan Chinese medicine culture and everyday wellness practices. She also demonstrated practical health management skills, including acupressure points and techniques that can help relax the mind and body. Afterwards, students made two special sachets of their own. While learning about the properties of different herbs, they also experienced traditional culture.

Students engaged actively in the discussion and devoted themselves to the workshop. They not only gained valuable wellness knowledge but also developed a deeper appreciation of traditional culture. This helped bring health and energy to the new academic year.

【國際殊榮 🌟練美兒教授榮獲AAAL 傑出學術與服務獎】

祝賀人文學院英語教育學系講座教授練美兒教授，獲選為美國應用語言學學會（AAAL）2027 年傑出學術與服務獎得主。🏆練教授是首位獲此獎項的華人學者，也是首位立足亞洲的學者。

練教授一直致力推動多語教育研究、語言教育公平與融合教育，研究成果結合理論與教學實踐。她也透過持續倡導支持新晉學者，造福國際學術界。

這個殊榮肯定她在應用語言學領域的卓越學術成就、專業服務及國際影響力，亦反映人文學院語言學研究的實力與國際聲譽。

👏 練教授的成就令人鼓舞，期待她繼續以研究連繫世界，為語言教育帶來更多啟發！

【International Honour 🌟 Prof Angel Lin Garners AAAL Distinguished Scholarship and Service Award】

Congratulations to Prof Lin Mei Yi Angel, Chair Professor in the Department of English Language Education of FHM, on being named the recipient of the American Association for Applied Linguistics (AAAL) 2027 Distinguished Scholarship and Service Award. 🏆 Prof Lin is the first Chinese scholar and also the first Asia-based scholar to receive this prestigious award.

She has been deeply committed to advancing research in multilingual education, equity in language education, and inclusive education, with scholarship that bridges theory and practice. She has also served the international community through sustained advocacy for emergent scholars.

This prestigious honour recognises her outstanding scholarly achievements, professional service, and international impact in the field of applied linguistics, and reflects the strength and global reputation of FHM’s linguistics research.

👏 Prof Lin's achievement is truly inspiring. We look forward to seeing her research continue to connect communities worldwide and bring new insights to language education!

【Humanities Everywhere – Streets 🛣️】

Have you ever wondered how the streets you pass every day got their names?

Sai Yeung Choi Street in Mong Kok recalls the area’s former watercress fields, while Gough Street in Central takes its Chinese name from the transliteration of a British name. Even Tai Po Market, home to EdUHK, has a name that reflects the district’s transformation over time.

Street names are more than points on a map📍— they carry Hong Kong’s language, culture, and history.

Dr Klaus Dittrich Attended the I***E Conference in Athens!

The Forty-Seventh International Standing Conference for the History of Education took place at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in Greece from 15 to 18 July 2026. This year’s conference theme analysed “Sources and Research Practices in the History of Education”. MAGHE’s Programme Leader Dr Klaus Dittrich attended the event and gave two presentations related to his current book project on education at world exhibitions. The first intervention was entitled “Secondary Reform, Modern Languages, Solidarity and Peace: Discussing International Letter Exchanges in Paris in 1900”. The second talk was called “Lille – Liège – Lucerne: The 1905 Moment of International Education”.

2026年7月15日至18日，第四十七屆國際教育史常設會議在希臘雅典國立卡波季斯特里安大學舉行。本屆會議的主題是「教育史的資料來源與研究實踐」。MAGHE課程主任Klaus Dittrich博士出席是次會議，就他正在撰寫的關於世界博覽會教育的著作計劃，發表了兩場演講。第一場演講題為「中學改革、現代語言、團結與和平：探討1900年巴黎的國際書信交流」，第二場演講題為「里爾—列日—盧塞恩：1905年國際教育的關鍵時刻」。
