🎉Some good news to kick-start this week! 𝗦𝘁𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻 𝗟𝗜 𝗫𝘂𝘄𝗲𝗻, our Year 2 PhD student in Environmental Science, Policy and Management, and 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗞𝗲𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡 and 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗳. 𝗤𝘂𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗢𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗨 from our Division of Environment and Sustainability (ENVR) have scooped the Best Full Paper Award in the Sustainable and Responsible Business track at the British Academy of Management (BAM) 2026 Conference for their co-authored paper, “Greenhushing and Reputational Threat: Theory and Evidence”. 🏆

Their study analyzes 20 years of global data 📊 to explain the phenomenon of "greenhushing"—revealing why some of the most eco-friendly companies actually choose to hide their sustainability efforts.

This achievement marks the second consecutive year that ENVR scholars and students have been recognized at the BAM Conference, one of the UK's most prestigious annual events in the academic field of management. Congratulations to the team on this honor! 👏🎓

⛈️Extreme weather is the new normal. Climate change is reshaping our cities, infrastructure, economies, and communities. How can we adapt and build resilience together?

Building on the success of previous CARE conferences, Climate Adaptation and Resilience Conference 2026 (CARE2026) will bring together over 50 speakers, including leading voices from the HKSAR government, academia, finance, industry, and NGOs to explore practical solutions for a more climate-resilient and bio-diverse future.

Across three days, participants will explore the latest climate science, emerging risks, resilient infrastructure, nature-based solutions, climate finance, and governance approaches for strengthening resilience.

🥵Are Hong Kong's outdoor workers properly protected against extreme heat?

✍️In a SCMP op-ed, Dr. Tilman Leo HOHENBERGER, PhD graduate in Environmental Science, Policy and Management, currently Associate Research Scientist at the Institute for the Environment; and Dr. Kimberly Tasha Jiayi TANG, PhD graduate in Atmospheric Environmental Science, currently Post-doctoral Fellow at the Division of Environment and Sustainability, evaluate Hong Kong’s Heat Stress at Work Warning system amid record temperatures, raising critical questions for our city’s future:

🔸Are current warnings doing enough to protect vulnerable workers?
🔸When should work officially stop during extreme heat?
🔸 How should we handle compensation and share the economic costs of adapting to this extreme weather?
