☀️💡 Creativity meets sustainability! 🎨🌱

We had a wonderful time at our Solar Mosaic Night Light Workshop on 20 October!

Participants loved having the "free time for creativity" to design their own unique mosaic patterns. Many shared that the hands-on crafting process was "calming" and thought building a solar-powered lamp from scratch was "soo cool!" ✨

Beyond the beautiful handicrafts, it was a great opportunity to explore how sustainable energy can be applied to our daily lives.
Huge thanks to Green One Lab and trainers Cherry Li and Eddie Li for guiding us through this fun, meaningful workshop! 💚

Thank you to everyone who joined us and made such pretty lights 🥰. We look forward to seeing you at more Library events! ☀️✨

🌟 Inspiring talk on Crisis Management on 13 October!

Drawing from decades of leadership experience, Prof. Philip Chen guided us through the four critical stages of crisis management 🛡️— Prevention, Handling, Recovery, and Rebuilding — leaving us with a powerful core message: "Do not waste a crisis (or anything life presents to you)!" 💡

We sincerely apologize for the brief regional voltage drop 🔌 that temporarily turned off the venue's digital backdrop and screens. However, in true crisis management fashion, Prof. Chen demonstrated "grace under fire." 臨危不亂 🔥 As many of you highlighted in your glowing feedback, he masterfully navigated the technical disruption with humor and engaging storytelling without missing a beat! 👏

Thank you for your understanding and for making the event such a success. ✨

🙏 Special thanks to the Office of the Provost for their generous support of this event.

🤖🪞 Take the AI Seal Challenge!

Can AI design the perfect seal face (印面)?

Use your favourite AI tool to create a custom seal in your preferred language or script style—whether that's traditional Chinese seal script (篆書), clerical (隸書), regular (楷書), running (行書), or English and other languages! The catch? The text must be mirror-reversed (反字), just like on a real seal before stamping.

Sounds easy? Getting the characters, layout, and mirroring right can be surprisingly tricky for AI. Can you craft the perfect prompt? 🧠💻

📍 Visit the Seal Exhibition at the 1/F Gallery for inspiration. Discover the artistry of human seal carvers and compare their craftsmanship with your AI creations.

A Reunion Across Five Centuries: The Stone's Fleeting Shadow, The Paper's Reflection

🌿 “Beneath the bridge, the spring waves ripple in green,Where once a graceful shadow cast its fleeting sheen.”— Lu You, Shen Garden

🪨 A seal is a fleeting moment of grace carved upon stone; a seal impression catalog is its reflection cast across the long river of history. Yet, war and calamity have often torn these two apart. Bringing together 340 treasures from the collections of Chung Jam Hin and Shiqi Caotang, this exhibition reunites the fleeting grace captured on stone with its reflection preserved on paper after five hundred years. Be sure to drop by to experience this timeless reunion right on campus!

📌 Exhibition Details:

🌿 From Waste to Nature: Rethinking sustainable architecture

Thank you to the staff and students who joined our recent talk with Mr. Otto Ng from LAAB Architects. It was encouraging to see such strong interest and an active Q&A session.

During the talk, Otto shared how architecture can move beyond static buildings to become adaptable systems that actively heal our cities. Based on your feedback, a few topics particularly resonated:

🪵 Meaningful upcycling: Reusing old harbor timber for new furniture while preserving its historical texture.

💧 Urban resilience: The Tsui Ping River revitalization, connecting ecological concepts directly to our daily lives.

🏙️ Attention to detail: The unconventional approach to integrating nature and local culture into Hong Kong’s urban fabric.

Thank you, Otto, for an insightful sharing. For those who suggested more talks on sustainability and future exhibitions - we appreciate your feedback and have noted it for our future planning.
