For Surgical NCHDs and Researchers of all stages, our highly popular competition for the RCSI National Surgical Research Medal will be of special interest. We will also have regional updates from the RCSI National Surgical Research Support Centre, surgical-research specific keynote lectures and lots of opportunities for networking.

One of the highlights of this year’s RCSI Millin Meeting is the attendance of key research support systems available in Ireland as exhibitors at this year’s upcoming event. Speaker Announcement - Dr Grainne Gorman, Chief Executive Officer of the Health Research Board - RCSI Millin Meeting

Keynote Lecture: Surgical Research in Ireland: A HRB Perspective - 11:30am to 12pm

RCSI is delighted to announce Dr Grainne Gorman, Chief Executive Officer of the Health Research Board, as one of our keynote speakers for this year's highly anticipated RCSI Millin Meeting on Friday, 13 November 2026.

Dr Gorman is a Neurologist by training specialising in mitochondrial disease. At Newcastle University, she served as Professor of Neurology, Director of the Welcome Centre for Mitochondrial Research, and Theme Co-Lead within the NIHR Newcastle Biomedical Research Centre. She is an alumna of the UK Academy of Medical Sciences’ FLIER (Future Leaders in Innovation, Enterprise and Research) programme and a graduate of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland.

Dr Gorman has completed undergraduate and postgraduate training in Ireland, attaining specialist certification in Neurology before moving to the UK to join Newcastle University, where her work has focused on clinical trials and translating mitochondrial research into innovative, co-designed care with patients and communities.
