Third-year doctor of audiology student Tyler Scott has spent the past year exploring the relationship between cochlear implants and certain hair types through her capstone project. Drawing on experiences from cochlear implant users, Scott aims for her research to raise awareness and guide change.

"I noticed a lack of information about hair and cochlear implants in the professional space,” Scott said. “I thought this was a big gap in patient care, especially for patients who have thicker and curlier hair types.”

“I wanted to find a hair-based solution for a hair-based problem.”

Radio Television Film - UT Austin area head for media production and assistant professor Miguel Alvarez gave students a valuable, hands-on learning experience through his newly released short film, "Piojo". Filmed at Robert Rodriguez’s Troublemaker Studios in East Austin, the production allowed students to work in a professional setting, contributing to various aspects of filmmaking. Students in RTF audio area head and assistant professor of practice Korey Pereira’s class also contributed to the short film’s sound design, capturing audio in real time using Moody Equipment Checkout’s new Blackbird sound cart.

“I wanted this to be an experience of what it's really like to work on a professional set,” Alvarez said. “Here are the expectations, here's how fast things move, here's how things connect. I just wanted to take advantage of all the energy and creativity of the students because I get set into my ways. It’s a great opportunity to take in ideas from students and feed off their energy.”

From the first day of class to the last, have officially taken the next step in their journey beyond the Forty Acres.

"We're stepping into a world that doesn't come with a syllabus. And yeah, that's a little intimidating. But, maybe that's the point," said Saanvi Sreejit, Communications Council President and 2026 graduate. "And just like the students and alumni who came before us, we've now done the same. We may leave this place, but the impact we've made doesn't."

The passion and commitment that define our students is truly extraordinary, and their years of research, learning and discovery has prepared them for them for this next chapter.

"When life throws you... a fastball when you least expect it, and it will. Don't duck. Swing. And if you miss? Swing again," said Fran Harris, WNBA champion and keynote speaker at the 2026 Moody College graduation keynote speaker. "Because what starts here changed our lives so that we can go out there and change the world."

"Life is going to throw you some curveballs," said Fran Harris, WNBA champion, captain and leading scorer of the Longhorns’ undefeated 1986 Texas Women's Basketball team, and Moody Alum as she addressed the Moody College Class of 2026. “Sometimes in the ninth inning, sometimes in the fourth quarter...sometimes when you do everything right. And here's the part nobody tells us: the world owes you nothing... But, you do deserve everything you’re willing to work for."

Thank you, Fran, for inspiring our graduates!
