Rivers Are Moving Sediment in Intense Bursts

New research co-authored by GCC affiliate Dr. Admin Husic, Civil & Environmental Engineering, reveals a striking shift in how rivers move sediment across the United States.

By analyzing nearly four decades of data from 175 rivers, researchers found that sediment is increasingly being transported during a small number of intense storms rather than gradually throughout the year.

The findings could have important implications for drinking water quality, aquatic ecosystems, and infrastructure as weather extremes become more common.
