At the Mizzou College of Health Sciences, we work every day to improve the health and well-being of individuals and communities. As the home of the most popular major on campus, we teach Mizzou students who care about health and are dedicated to serving others. In addition to learning in the classroom, our students spend more than 80,150 hours helping patients every year. They lead the way by conducting research that has power and purpose. From expanding the use of technology in health care to improving mental health and learning in schools, we are discovering ways to make life better for everyone. Through clinics and community outreach programs, we provide vital services to members of our community and training for our students. We are proud to serve Missourians today while preparing the workforce of tomorrow.

Several CHS students recently went to Jefferson City for an Emerging Leaders in Public Service Trip. Students studying social work, public health and health sciences all attended.

The visit was an opportunity for them to explore public service careers and network with Mizzou alumni 🐯

Meet another new faculty member in the College of Health Sciences.

Brittany Anne Chozinski is an associate teaching professor in the Criminal and Justice Studies program.

Before coming to Mizzou, Brittany worked in Texas as a teacher and certified crisis intervention specialist supporting survivors of trauma and designing training for law enforcement and victim advocates.

"I was drawn to this work after seeing firsthand how deeply legal and health systems overlap, and how often people in crisis fall through the cracks between them," she said.

Several CHS students recently visited the Missouri State Capitol to explore how policy shapes our communities and their careers.

The visit was organized by the Civic Leaders Internship Program (CLIP), and included a tour of the Capitol and meetings with legislators.

Meet the new faculty who have joined the College of Health Sciences!

First up is Joe Armistead, an assistant teaching professor in the Criminal and Justice Studies program.

Joe recently retired as captain with the Missouri State Highway Patrol. He brings his law enforcement experience and previous college-level teaching to his work with students.

"I am especially excited to work with students as they examine important issues facing the field today and connect classroom learning to real-world challenges," he said.

Greg Cox, PT, DPT, ScD, has been selected as the next director of the Mizzou Master of Health Administration program, effective January 2027.

An award-winning educator, Cox has been a faculty member in the departments of Health Sciences and Physical Therapy since 2019. His experience includes leading curriculum development for one of Mizzou’s largest undergraduate programs, the BHS in Health Science, and contributing to Doctor of Physical Therapy accreditation efforts.

He has also guided efforts within the college to explore and integrate artificial intelligence into teaching.

“I’m excited about the leadership Dr. Cox will bring to the MHA program,” said Botswana Toney Blackburn, chair of the Department of Health Sciences. “As health care continues to change, I believe Dr. Cox has the vision and skill set to ensure our program continues to prepare students to lead in an evolving industry.”

Blackburn said the search committee was especially impressed by Cox’s rapport with students, his teaching philosophy and his ability to connect with others.

Cox said he was drawn to the position by the opportunity to shape student education, skill development and professional success. He emphasized the Mizzou MHA program has a long history and solid reputation to build on.

“We have talented students, strong teaching and engaged alumni,” Cox said. “I’m excited about the opportunities to collaborate within our college and across campus and bring people together around shared goals. It’s also important that we understand what employers are looking for and help our students develop the skills they need for professional success.”

Mizzou MHA Alumni Organization President Sara Sternberger, who served on the search committee, said she was very pleased with the decision.

“With new accreditation standards on the horizon and the ever-changing health care landscape, Dr. Cox is the right leader at the right time,” said Sternberger, MBA, MHA. “He understands the environment, the importance of student success and alumni engagement, and the strategic involvement of faculty and staff in the program and the department. I am certain that once our alumni get to know Greg and witness his enthusiasm and commitment to our program, they will be just as excited and impressed.”
