CarolinaTIP's advancement to the P*e Dee region was made possible by the generous support from Power:Ed. We're delighted to be chosen as one of their featured grantees!

“This forward-thinking gift from Power:Ed has allowed CarolinaTIP to support and serve more South Carolina teachers as we work to positively impact teacher retention,” said CarolinaTIP Director Nicole Skeen. “Thanks to the generosity of Power:Ed, the program was able to launch two cohorts of teachers across eight districts in the P*e Dee region.”

More:

CarolinaTIP’s reach is expanding to help more novice teachers stay and succeed in the classroom. Power:Ed’s investment in high-need regions is strengthening educator retention and improving outcomes.

O6 Afterschool is the primary program of the Original Six Foundation, serving students in grades two through eight with quality afterschool enrichment. During the program's 10-year anniversary celebration, A Decade of Opening Doors, educators and partners were honored. The evening brought together the full O6 network of partners, sponsors, board members and supporters to recognize the collective impact of the initiative. The Original Six Foundation was founded in 2011 by then South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley to serve as a non-partisan facilitator and funding mechanism to assist South Carolina’s neediest communities.

South Carolina Superintendent of Education, Ellen Weaver, acknowledged and thanked the Institute for Rural Education and Development (IRED) for its critical support in generating and analyzing foundational data that strengthened the program’s statewide impact and accountability. We are grateful for their recognition of our efforts to empower every learner in South Carolina!

COE in the news! 📰 As a young girl in Taliban-controlled northern Afghanistan, Zo Sediqi wasn’t allowed to go to school. She was 9 years old when she first stepped foot in a formal classroom.

It gave Sediqi a great respect for education. Since then, she has built a career around learning, earning her doctorate degree in higher education administration from the University of South Carolina earlier this month.

More from the SC Daily Gazette đź”—

The U.S. toppling of the Taliban in 2001 enabled Zo Sediqi to first enter a formal classroom at 9 years old. Now she has a doctorate.

Joe Roof’s students had been preparing for their final test all semester, and now was the moment of truth.

One after another, they splashed into the pool at USC’s Blatt P.E. Center to begin the swim portion of a modified triathlon super sprint — 200 meters swimming followed by seven miles pedaling on indoor spin bikes and two miles jogging on the Blatt practice field. It was the perfect ending to a one-credit-hour elective course called Triathlon Training.
