As the only College of Music in Tennessee and one of the few standalone music colleges in the nation, we’re shaping the sound of tomorrow. The University of Tennessee has a rich history of music, dating back to the 1860s when what is now known as the Pride of the Southland Marching Band began. From the Blues in Memphis, country music in Nashville, and folk in Appalachia - music is embedded in Tennessee's history and the economy. In a time when many institutions are dimming the spotlight on the arts, we proudly take center stage. As of July 1, 2023, UT's dedication to music soared with the transformation of our School of Music into the prestigious College of Music. As the flagship university of our state, we stand alone as the only College of Music in Tennessee and the Southeastern Conference, and one of the select few standalone music colleges nationwide among state universities. Our College offers a diverse range of professional concentrations, providing students with unparalleled opportunities to delve into music through the lenses of analysis, business, composition, conducting, education, musicology, performance, and technology. With over 200 performances and concerts annually, the melodies of UT Music continue to enrich the lives of our alumni, families, and supporters of the arts.
