UT Knoxville Alumni The UT Knoxville alumni family has more than 250,000 members living in all 50 states and in more than 100 countries.

The Office of Alumni Relations is dedicated to promoting and advancing the University of Tennessee and all of its stellar programs. As the state’s flagship university we attract the best and brightest students. While they are here they learn so much more than what a classroom experience can provide. Those experiences in and out of the classroom help to connect each and every graduate of UT.

Recent University of Tennessee, Knoxville alum John Humphrey (’26) knew he wanted to be a zookeeper in second grade. Thanks to his ambition and hard work as a student, he landed his dream job as an animal care specialist working with chimpanzees.

His major in ecology and evolutionary biology (EEB at UTK), research for his honors thesis, and volunteer work with Zoo Knoxville all gave him the advantage he needed to chase his dreams.

Humphrey's experiences in the UT College of Arts and Sciences prepared him for his new job at the Kansas City Zoo & Aquarium where he is part of the team that cares for chimpanzees, hippos, African painted dogs, baboons, and a few reptiles.
