The Facebook group site for the UTK Religious Studies Association can be found at https://www.facebook.com/groups/196172761092 The Department of Religious Studies at UTK promotes the critical and comparative study of religion, and does not favor one religious tradition at the expense of oth

ers. Drawing upon a range of perspectives – historical, anthropological, textual, and theoretical – the Department highlights both the variety and complexity of religious beliefs, practices, communities, and institutions. Their research and teaching interests span religious traditions such as Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism; geographic regions such as the Americas and Africa, the Ancient Mediterranean and Asia; and thematic topics such as the relationship of religion to politics, gender, violence, sport, media, and the arts. The UTK Department of Religious Studies offers a nationally recognized academic program dedicated to the historical and critical analysis of religion, which recognizes religion as a crucial element of history, culture, and politics—both at home and around the world. Our multidisciplinary, multicultural approach includes a wide variety of the world's religious traditions, and our methods equip students with the skills to analyze and understand the complex relationships among religion, culture, and society. Religious studies majors have used their training as a basis for careers in research, teaching, law, government, social and humanitarian work, religious service, world business, and the media.
