Class of 2028: Caring Beyond the Classroom

Our Class of 2028 is proud to support the NPH USA Foundation, an organization dedicated to helping provide education, healthcare, and stability to communities in need.

Recently, our cohort collected and donated supplies including crayons, toys, and personal hygiene items to a community in Peru connected with NPH. Thanks to a direct connection within our cohort, the donated items were transported with a foundation volunteer and delivered to the community in mid-to-late August.

For several weeks, our students came together to collect items and make a meaningful contribution to children and families thousands of miles away. This effort is just one example of the Class of 2028’s commitment to service and to making a difference beyond the walls of the classroom.

Looking ahead, our cohort hopes to continue raising support for NPH and similar communities, with a particular focus on improving access to healthcare.

We are proud of our students for recognizing that being a healthcare professional means more than caring for patients—it means finding ways to serve communities wherever the need exists.

Class of 2028, making an impact one act of service at a time.

💜 ALUMNI SPOTLIGHT: EMILY ORTON 💜

Emily began an exciting new chapter in December as a cardiothoracic and vascular surgery PA in Houston, Texas!

After six months of job searching—and always expecting to remain in her home state of Kansas—Emily took a leap of faith and accepted a position in Houston. Moving from a hometown of about 850 people to one of the largest cities in the country has been quite an adjustment, but it has also given her the opportunity to work alongside a surgeon with more than 35 years of experience and learn within a medical community rich in history and innovation.

Emily recently celebrated another wonderful milestone, welcoming her sweet baby boy on June 13! She is now embracing life in a new city, an exciting surgical career, and the joy of becoming a mother of two.

Congratulations, Emily! We are so proud to see where your K-State PA journey has taken you! 💜

Today was a full day of learning, laughter, and lots of smiles for our K-State PA students!

Our students spent time with residents at Ascension Via Christi, Meadowlark, and Stoneybrook, putting their geriatric medicine skills into practice. They took medical and medication histories, performed focused physical exams, assessed mobility, cognition and fall risk, reviewed chronic disease management, and gained valuable insight into caring for older adults.

But as you can tell from the pictures, some of the best lessons didn’t come from a textbook. Our students had the opportunity to listen, connect, laugh, and learn from some pretty wonderful people — and we’re not sure who enjoyed the visits more!

And because apparently one celebration wasn’t enough for the day… our students, faculty, and staff also celebrated our Program Director’s birthday!

Happy Birthday, Dr. Fitz! We hope your day was filled with as many smiles as our students brought home from their visits today. 💜

A pretty great day to be part of the K-State PA family!

Who says faculty don't have homework?

This week, Dr. Amy Fitzgerald (Program Director), Christine Hazlett (Clinical Director), and Michael Trausch (Principal Faculty) traded Manhattan for Dallas to become EMR Training Faculty for BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

Today we had the opportunity to train alongside our friends from TCU! A huge thank you to Laurie Lopez, Jennifer Borchardt, MSN, RN, CEN, and EMR Instructor Justin for a fantastic day of learning, teamwork, and a little friendly conference rivalry.

Soon we'll be bringing these instructor skills back to Kansas State PA students—because Wildcats don't just learn lifesaving skills... we teach them, too.

EMAW!
