If you are a post-primary teacher who is interested in teaching Irish but don’t have the qualification to teach the subject to Leaving Cert level, you can now obtain that qualification at Trinity College Dublin. We run a postgraduate diploma for teachers with no course fees to the student / the school – part-time with classes online and on campus. The Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge do Mhúinteoirí is funded by the Department of Education and Youth. (Applicants must be Route 2 registered with the Teaching Council to receive funding.) https://www.tcd.ie/education/courses/postgraduate/postgraduate-diplomas-in-irish-and-french-for-teachers/

For teachers at all levels, or indeed, those in leadership roles, with an interest in immersion education through Irish, they might consider enhancing their teaching practice with the M.Oid. san Oideachas Lán-Ghaeilge agus Gaeltachta, which is again funded (reduced fees of €650 p.a.) by the Department. This is particularly relevant to those teaching in Gaelscoileanna, but it may also be suitable for an Irish teacher or for other colleagues.

School Principals are invited to encourage their staff to apply, and teachers could pass on the information to colleagues they know have that grá don Ghaeilge.

Más múinteoir iarbhunscoile thú a bhfuil Gaeilge acu ach nach bhfuil an cháilíocht acu lena teagasc, tá cúrsa iarchéime ag Coláiste na Tríonóide leis an gcáilíocht sin a bhaint amach. Níl aon chostas ar an gcúrsa don mhúinteoir ná don scoil – cúrsa páirt-aimseartha, ar líne agus ar an gcampas. Tá an Dioplóma sa Ghaeilge do Mhúinteoirí maoinithe go hiomlán ag an Roinn Oideachais agus Óige. (Ní mór d’iarrthóirí a bheith cláraithe le Bealach a 2 leis an gComhairle Mhúinteoireachta le maoiniú a fháil.)

Do mhúinteoirí ag gach leibhéal, nó go deimhin do cheannairí scoile, a bhfuil suim acu sa tumoideachas trí Ghaeilge, bheadh an M.Oid. san Oideachas Lán-Ghaeilge agus Gaeltachta oiriúnach agus spreagúil dá gcleachtas. Tá an cúrsa seo maoinithe freisin (táille laghdaithe €650 p.a.) ag an Roinn. Tá sé seo iontach ábhartha do mhúinteoirí i nGaelscoileanna, ach tharlódh go mbeadh sé suimiúil do mhúinteoirí Gaeilge nó do chomhghleacaithe eile.

Tugaimid cuireadh do phríomhoidí a mbaill foirne a spreagadh cur isteach ar na cúrsaí seo, agus fáilte roimh mhúinteoirí an t-eolas a scaipeadh i measc comhghleacaithe le grá don Ghaeilge.

Please join us for our next Teacher Education and Development Research Group webinar with Prof. Christian van Nieuwerburgh, Professor of Coaching and Positive Psychology at the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences on Tuesday 2nd June 2026 at 4pm: “Sparking and Sustaining Coaching Cultures in Schools”.

This session explores the growing role of coaching in education - what it can add, how it is currently being used in schools, and whether it can be expanded as a methodology for bringing about lasting change.

Drawing on research and the principles of positive psychology, this session considers the potential of coaching to transform school cultures, placing outcomes and wellbeing on an equal footing. Looking ahead, it will examine what a sustainable coaching culture in schools might look like and how to achieve it.

Following this presentation, a brief panel discussion will take place with Dr. Niamh Deignan, Assistant Professor in Educational Leadership and Policy, Trinity and Ms. Valerie Maher, Principal at Holy Child Community School. The session will be chaired by Prof. Gavin Murphy, Associate Professor at the School of Education.

The panel will advise the Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on protecting children online and potential age limits for social media and digital services in Europe. In her 2025 State of the Union, President von der Leyen highlighted the opportunities and risks digital technologies pose to minors including cyberbullying, adult content, self-harm promotion, and addictive algorithms and called for expert guidance to create safer online spaces for young people.
