The faculty of the HDFS is committed to understanding and improving the lives of people of all ages through our education, research, and outreach activities. We strive to accomplish the following in all our endeavors:

Build caring communities for learning and working with each other, with students, and with the people we serve. Accept and value diversity; we appreciate differences in people, families, and ideas. Convey that every family has value and that learning should take place in an environment of mutual respect and tolerance. Provide opportunities to learn how to help people live and work in caring relationships, families, organizations, and communities. Facilitate the acquisition of knowledge and skills that will help people resolve individual, interpersonal, family, organizational, and social problems. Please mark your calendars for the Virginia Tech HDFS Master’s Program Information Session Thursday, October 29th from 4:30-5:15pm ET.

During our information session, we will explore our M.S. and accelerated B.S. to M.S. tracks, admission requirements, and how the program prepares students for leadership and administrative roles in human services through internships and independent projects.

Our accelerated track allows students to count up to 12 credits toward both their B.S. and M.S. degrees and, in turn, earn their M.S. in just one year after completing their B.S.

Students entering with a bachelor’s degree can complete the M.S. in 1.5-2 years.

Hey HDFS Hokies! Mark your calendars: the Career Expo for HDFS students is on Thursday, Oct. 29th, 1:00pm-4:30pm in Wallace Atrium.

We will have over 15 different organizations represented. Even if you're not looking for a job or field study site yet, it's a great idea to come see what potential opportunities exist and learn about how to prepare to be a competitive applicant.

There will also be a pop-up event Oct. 26th 10am-2pm in Wallace Atrium that Career and Professional Development is putting on to assist with resume reviews and elevator pitches. If you have questions about how to prepare, our HDFS Experiential Learning Coordinator Alexis Henderson has answers in a podcast episode she recorded last Fall, with great information.
