Centenary College of Louisiana is a private, four-year arts and sciences college affiliated with the United Methodist Church. Founded in 1825, it is the oldest chartered liberal arts college west of the Mississippi River and is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS). Centenary is one of 16 colleges and universities constituting the Associated Colleges of the South (ACS) and is regularly rated as one of the top colleges in the South. Mentioned in the Templeton Guide's Colleges that encourage Character Development and in Peterson's Top Colleges for Science, the College is also highly ranked in U.S. In 2009, the Princeton Review tagged Centenary College as one of the "Best 371 Colleges," and Newsweek named us the "Hottest Liberal Arts School You've Never Heard Of." This fall, Dr. Pete Zunick, associate professor of psychology , Dr. Kyra Rietveld, assistant professor of art history, and Dr. Joshua Lawrence, associate professor of chemistry, each explored memory, myth, and bronze through each of their academic disciplines as part of the Corrington Convocation Lecture Series and now it all comes together. The Centenary English Department will present the 2026 John William Corrington Award for Literary Excellence to poet Richie Hofmann Monday, Oct. 26, in Centenary’s Marjorie Lyons Playhouse.

The ceremony begins at 6:30 p.m. and is free and open to the public. Hofmann will give a reading and answer questions from the audience followed by a reception and book signing in the Anderson Choral Building. The ceremony will also feature creative performances by current Centenary students and alumni.

Aljay Foreman, vice president and administrator at Willis Knighton North, was honored with the Centenary College Alumni Hall of Fame Award at the recent Alumni Awards Banquet. This prestigious recognition highlights his dedicated service, generous support and longstanding commitment to Centenary College, which recently celebrated its homecoming festivities. Mr. Foreman remains deeply engaged in the Shreveport-Bossier community, providing leadership to various organizations including Shreveport Green, Boys & Girls Club, Salvation Army, Louisiana State Fair Board, Shreveport-Bossier African American Chamber of Commerce and the Centenary College Alumni Board. His ongoing contributions also extend to boards such as Willis Knighton Federal Credit Union, the Rescue Mission, Northwest Louisiana Sickle Cell Association, Shreveport Local Workforce Development Board and Goodwill Industries. Additionally, he serves as Southwestern Province Keeper of Records for Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.
