Choosing a programme often starts with curiosity.
For Melinda, what first drew her to SBMS was the opportunity to explore different areas before discovering what she was truly interested in. Joanna shares that beyond curiosity and a passion for science, taking initiative and being willing to explore are also important qualities for studying Biomedical Sciences at HKUMed.

And once the journey begins, memorable learning experiences can happen both inside and outside the classroom. In this episode, Eamon also shares one of the moments that stood out most during his studies.

Curious about who might be a good fit for BBiomedSc, and what the learning experience is really like? Hear it from our students 🎥👇

📖✨ Fɪᴠᴇ Cʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs, Oɴᴇ Uɴғᴏʀɢᴇᴛᴛᴀʙʟᴇ Sᴜᴍᴍᴇʀ ɪɴ Hᴏɴɢ Kᴏɴɢ

Join Viktoria on her journey from Germany to HKU, where each chapter tells a different story of how she experienced Hong Kong — and the moments that made her summer here so special. 🇩🇪✈️🇭🇰

🍵 Cʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 1 — Fɪʀsᴛ Tᴀsᴛᴇs ᴏꜰ Hᴏɴɢ Kᴏɴɢ
The beginning of summer was all about discovering Hong Kong’s spirit, nature, aesthetics and, of course, cuisine! From exploring the city’s tea culture and enjoying a warm pineapple bun before work, to admiring the colourful MTR stations🚈, these first impressions quickly became some of Viktoria’s favourites💕.

🔬 Cʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 2 — Bᴇᴄᴏᴍɪɴɢ Pᴀʀᴛ ᴏꜰ Tʜᴇ Lᴀʙ
Learning new science, building confidence and enjoying the sunny views from the lab soon became part of Viktoria’s daily routine. And perhaps her summer was destined to be a good one — a tiny ladybug landed on her bag on her very first day! 🐞☀️

🚋 Cʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 3 — Fᴀʟʟɪɴɢ ꜰᴏʀ Hᴏɴɢ Kᴏɴɢ's Cʜᴀʀᴍ
The colours, urban design and fast-paced energy of Hong Kong captured her heart. Weekend tram rides and wandering through Sheung Wan became favourite ways to explore, while experiencing Hong Kong’s iconic horse racing scene made her feel even more connected to the city. 🏙️🐎

🌃 Cʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 4 — A Cɪᴛʏ Tʜᴀᴛ Sʜɪɴᴇs
From night walks and beaches to the endless city lights, Hong Kong never failed to impress. Its unforgettable skyline is one view Viktoria knows she will carry with her for a long time. ✨

🫶 Cʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀ 5 — Tʜᴇ Pᴇᴏᴘʟᴇ Wʜᴏ Mᴀᴅᴇ Iᴛ Sᴘᴇᴄɪᴀʟ
Perhaps the most important chapter of all. Sharing special moments (and plenty of amazing food! 🥢) with the people around her became Viktoria’s most treasured memory. She is especially grateful for the friendships formed in the lab and all the moments shared along the way. A visit from her mother even gave Viktoria the chance to switch roles and become the Hong Kong tour guide for once! 😉

Five chapters, countless memories, and one summer to remember. 💚 Thank you for making HKU and Hong Kong part of your story, Viktoria!
