The Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences (JCC) was delighted to welcome our new Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine (BVM) students at today's Orientation programme.

This year, the BVM cohort comprises 43 students, including 31 local students and 12 non-local students from the Chinese Mainland, Macau, Singapore and Korea.

The Orientation provided an opportunity for students to meet their classmates and faculty members, learn more about the programme, and begin their journey towards becoming future veterinary professionals.

We are excited to have you join the JCC community and look forward to seeing you grow, learn, and thrive in the years ahead.

Unlike mammals, reptiles depend on heat and sunlight to regulate their body temperature and maintain healthy body functions. ☀️

In the latest TVB News Column, 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐟𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐫 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐜𝐃𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐨𝐭𝐭, Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences at City University of Hong Kong, explains why proper temperatures, UVB lighting and suitable housing are essential for the well-being of pet reptiles such as turtles, tortoises, lizards and snakes.

Without the right environment, reptiles can develop serious health problems, including weakened immune systems, poor digestion and bone disorders. Fortunately, many of these conditions can be prevented with proper care and husbandry.

Our PhD student George Guo Zhao-jin from the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health recently joined the Future Global Leaders Programme, a collaboration between CityUHK and Lucy Cavendish College, University of Cambridge. The programme brought together students from different academic and cultural backgrounds to share ideas and discuss global challenges.

One of the highlights for George was the opportunity to meet and learn from students with different experiences and viewpoints. Through these exchanges, he gained fresh insights and a broader perspective that will support his future research journey.

【𝑻𝑾𝑶 𝑾𝑬𝑬𝑲𝑺 𝑰𝑵𝑺𝑰𝑫𝑬 𝑻𝑯𝑬 𝑹𝑬𝑨𝑳 𝑾𝑶𝑹𝑳𝑫 𝑶𝑭 𝑽𝑬𝑻𝑬𝑹𝑰𝑵𝑨𝑹𝒀 𝑴𝑬𝑫𝑰𝑪𝑰𝑵𝑬】

For two weeks, 36 intrepid high school students experienced the Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences' transformative summer programme.

The programme not only helped students prepare for a future in veterinary medicine, but also rigorously tested their suitability for this unique profession, providing a clear-eyed view of both its rewards and its profound challenges.

🔍 The multifaceted curriculum encompassed aspects moving beyond the traditional public perspective of an animal doctor, from animal welfare and behaviour 🐾 to public health 🌏, food sustainability 🌱 and wildlife forensics 🦅, all interspersed with a healthy dose of animal handling involving cats, goats, horses, chickens and dogs 🐱🐐🐴🐔🐶 and clinical skills labs 🩺, ensuring that every student leaves with a clear, informed vision of their own future.
