Hong Kong Baptist University In 1983, Hong Kong Baptist College became a fully-funded public tertiary institution.

HKBU is committed to academic excellence in teaching, research and service, and to the development of the whole person in all these endeavours built upon the heritage of Christian higher education. In 1956, Hong Kong Baptist College was founded by the Baptist Convention of Hong Kong as a post-secondary college committed to the provision of whole person education. It gained university status in 1994 and was renamed Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). Today HKBU encompasses eight Faculties/Schools offering a range of undergraduate programmes, associate degree and higher diploma programmes as well as taught postgraduate programmes and research postgraduate programmes leading to the award of master and doctoral degrees. It prides itself on its dual focus on teaching and research and encourages service to society among its staff and students. Over the years, HKBU has remained committed to academic excellence and the development of the whole person, and has gained a reputation as one of Asia’s finest institutions of higher learning.

香港浸會學院是由香港浸信會聯會於1956年創辦的私立高等學府，致力提供全人教育。1983年，當時的浸會學院獲政府全面資助，成為公立專上學府，至1994年獲得正名，成為香港浸會大學(浸大)。

時至今日，浸大共設有八個學院，開辦學士、修課式和研究式的碩士與博士課程、副學士及高級文憑課程。浸大對教學和研究同樣重視，並鼓勵教職員和學生服務社會。浸大以全人教育為辦學理念，現為亞洲最優秀的高等教育學府之一。

【A passion for space, a future in Chinese medicine: HKBU’s Heymans So 🔬】

From being selected as a torchbearer for the 15th National Games in Hong Kong to serving as a Youth Development Commission Youth Ambassador, HKBU’s Heymans So is putting knowledge into action.

As an HKBU House of Scholars Fellow graduating from the Chinese medicine and biomedical science programme, Heymans credits HKBU’s flexible curriculum with helping him develop a transdisciplinary mindset. The School of Chinese Medicine’s involvement in Tianzhou-1 research has inspired his ambition to explore how Chinese medicine could support astronauts’ health 🚀.

His contributions began early: in his first year on campus, he helped the School establish its social media platform, making medical knowledge more accessible to the public.

Now planning to pursue a PhD at HKBU, Heymans aims to turn laboratory discoveries into treatments that benefit society 🔬.

【航天夢，中醫路：浸大蘇熙驊🔬】

獲選為第十五屆全運會香港區火炬手、擔任青年發展委員會YDC青年大使，並立志投身科研——浸大學生蘇熙驊積極以知識服務社會，實踐所學。

身為浸大「榮譽學苑」的榮譽學人，以及中醫學學士及生物醫學理學士（榮譽）課程應屆畢業生，熙驊認為浸大靈活的課程幫助他建立跨學科思維。中醫藥學院參與「天舟一號」的研究經驗，亦啟發他探索中醫藥如何保障太空人的健康🚀。

早在大學一年級，他已主動協助學院建立社交媒體平台，將專業醫學知識轉化為公眾容易理解的資訊。

熙驊計劃繼續在浸大攻讀博士學位，期望將實驗室的發現轉化為應用，造福社會🔬。

【HKBU Faculty of Science renamed as Faculty of Science and Technology 🔬✨】

A new name, a new chapter 🎉! HKBU’s Faculty of Science officially became the Faculty of Science and Technology (FST) on 1 September 2026, reflecting its evolving strengths in both science and technology.

Around 300 guests, including University representatives, industry partners, alumni, staff and students, gathered for the renaming ceremony to celebrate this milestone.

Professor Alex Wai, President and Vice-Chancellor of HKBU, said the new name better reflects the Faculty’s academic breadth, strengths and societal impact. Professor Michael Ng, Dean of the Faculty of Science and Technology, highlighted how the change will support its strategic development, attract talent and strengthen its international profile.

The ceremony also featured the premiere of a Faculty video highlighting its commitment to nurturing future talent, as well as an awards presentation for its logo and mascot design competition.

新名字，新篇章 🎉！浸大理學院於2026年9月1日正式更名為科學與科技學院，展現學院科學與科技並重的特色與發展方向。

更名典禮獲約300位大學代表、業界夥伴、校友、教職員及學生出席支持，共同慶祝這個重要時刻。

浸大校長衞炳江教授表示，新名稱更能反映學院的學術廣度、優勢及社會影響力。科學與科技學院院長吳國寶教授則指出，更名有助推進學院的策略發展、吸引優秀人才，並提升國際聲譽。

典禮亦首播學院全新影片，展現培育未來人才的使命，並舉行學院標誌及吉祥物設計比賽頒獎禮，嘉許師生及校友的創意。

【 : How student theatre helped build HKBU’s first permanent campus 🎭✨】

In HKBU’s early years, students took to the stage to help the Hong Kong Baptist College build a home of its own.

In 1959, students from the Dramatics Club staged a fundraising performance of “Si Sze”, one of playwright Mr Yao Ke’s masterpieces.

Thanks to the captivating performance, they raised about HKD60,000 to help establish Hong Kong Baptist College’s first permanent campus. Their contribution formed part of a wider community effort to make the campus a reality.

Looking back on this BUtiful moment, we thank the generations of students, alumni and supporters for their immense contributions 🫶.

【 ：學生公演《西施》籌款助建校舍 🎭✨】

香港浸會書院成立初期，學生走上舞台，以演出籌款支持學校興建自己的校舍。

1959年，劇社成員為建校籌款，演出戲劇大師姚克先生的名劇之一《西施》。

憑藉引人入勝的演出，他們為香港浸會書院首座永久校舍的建設籌集了近六萬港元。校舍於1966年落成，背後凝聚各界支持，也有同學們台上台下的心機與汗水。

一同重溫這個BUtiful時刻，感謝歷屆同學、校友和浸大社群的支持貢獻🫶。

HKBU Library, in collaboration with the Department of History (Department of History, HKBU 香港浸會大學歷史系),has launched “HKBU TimeScape: Campus Development Map”—a comprehensive digital platform opening up decades of campus history, stories, and transformations for all to explore.

🔎 Now, alumni, students, staff, and the wider community can stroll through time using interactive maps, and browse over 2,000 digitised treasures from the University’s collections—including photos, publications, videos, architectural plans, and more.

🎊 Join the Library’s launch celebration to explore the platform, revisit campus memories and share your own stories!

📸 Visit our newspaper photo booth to pose for a portrait styled after the classic “College News” front page and take home your personalised campus headline!
