Congratulations to RIAM Junior Academy pianists Louise Byrne and Grace Bai on their outstanding success at the Eighth Scottish International Youth Piano Competition in Glasgow.

Louise, a student of Ray Keary, was awarded First Prize in the Junior Division, while Grace, a student of Hugh Tinney, received Second Prize in the Senior Division.

The competition took place at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland following its annual Piano Summer School, bringing together talented young pianists from around the world.

A wonderful international achievement for both musicians. Congratulations to Louise, Grace and their teachers!

We’re hiring: Digital Content & Social Media Executive

RIAM is seeking a creative and proactive content creator to help tell the story of Ireland’s national conservatoire across social and digital channels.

This hands-on role will involve creating, editing and publishing content, managing the social media calendar, identifying stories across the Academy, capturing performances and behind-the-scenes moments, and helping bring RIAM’s students, faculty, alumni and public events to wider audiences.

This role would suit someone with strong social media instincts, excellent attention to detail, and the confidence to spot a story and follow it through from idea to publication.

It's been a (very warm!) summer of music-making at RIAM!

Musicians of all ages and experience levels have come together across three very different summer courses, sharing ideas, building confidence and experiencing the joy of performing together.

Inside the Orchestra -
Adult amateur musicians spent three inspiring days exploring orchestral and chamber music, supported by RIAM tutors and conductor Davide Forti. The workshop concluded with a final performance in the Whyte Recital Hall, celebrating the enthusiasm, collaboration and musical growth of everyone involved.

DYC Summer Sing -
Young singers worked together in an energetic week of rehearsals, ensemble singing and performance with expert tutors from Dublin Youth Choir, developing their voices while discovering the excitement of making music as part of a choir.

Young Pianists Summer Intensive -
Twenty-seven young pianists joined RIAM Professors Therese Fahy and Conor Linehan for a week of focused learning and exploration, culminating in a live recital for family and friends.

Thank you to all the participants, tutors, families and audience members who made these courses so enjoyable for all involved!

Livia Records in association with the James Joyce Centre presents JOYCE NOTES, performed by the Conor Guilfoyle Septet with Barry McGovern on Thursday, 3 September at 7.30pm in the Whyte Recital Hall, Royal Irish Academy of Music.

JOYCE NOTES, legendary Irish jazz guitarist Louis Stewart’s six-part suite based on scenes from James Joyce’s groundbreaking novel, Ulysses, will be performed for the first time since 1993, coinciding with the release of the original performance recording on Livia Records earlier this year.

JOYCE NOTES was first performed at the Cork Jazz Festival in 1982 by an Irish-American octet led by Louis Stewart with readings from actor Eamon Morrissey. Following its premiere in Cork, JOYCE NOTES was performed just twice more in the 1990s, once in Oslo with a local band and Norwegian text and once in Dublin in 1993.

For this performance, veteran Jazz and Latin drummer and band leader Conor Guilfoyle will lead his Septet with renowned actor Barry McGovern delivering the Joyce lines.

How lucky our brass students have been to work with an artist like Peter Moore this year!

Peter, whose sensitivity, command of technique and versatility has made him one of the most exciting exponents of the trombone today, is an International Visiting Artist at the Academy until 2028.

The Wigmore Series Dublin 2026/27 Season has been announced by John Gilhooly CBE, Artistic and Executive Director of Wigmore Hall and Deborah Kelleher, Director of RIAM.

The new season brings some of the world’s finest chamber musicians and recital artists to Dublin, including Alina Ibragimova and Cédric Tiberghien, Angela Hewitt, Nardus Williams and Elizabeth Kenny, Paul Lewis, the Pavel Haas Quartet and The Gesualdo Six.

Presented in partnership with Wigmore Hall, the series offers Irish audiences the chance to experience exceptional international artistry in the intimate setting of the Whyte Recital Hall, with masterclasses and student opportunities for RIAM students continuing at the heart of the collaboration.
