Three sections at Asylum Lake Preserve will undergo a prescribed burn on a yet to be determined date in October or November. Those sections include:

1. 7 acres of forest southwest of the lake.
2. 26 acres of prairie on the southwest corner of the preserve.
3. 18 acres of savannah on the southeast corner of the preserve.

Due to specific weather conditions required for a safe burn, including air temperature below 60°F, humidity above 40% and wind speeds between 5-15 mph, the exact date and time of the burn will be announced shortly in advance. If the required conditions are not met, the burn will not occur.

It is a joy to have student employees in our office and see experience-driven learning in action!

Today, we're highlighting Anna Reisner, who spent the last year supporting our business office and executive team. As a senior majoring in Finance with minors in Leadership and Business Strategy, Business Communication, and Marketing, Anna was able to apply what she learned in the classroom directly to her work with our team. She shared that "being able to use these skills outside of the classroom has helped me understand why they are important and how I will continue to use them throughout my career."

While we will miss her in the office, we are so happy for Anna as she leaves our team to pursue an exciting internship opportunity. Thank you for your hard work and positive impact!

Our least favorite news to share, but the news must be shared. We started the process to close Miller Fountain for the season today. We’re just as sad as you. 🥺

Please help cheer us up and tell us about your favorite fountain memories from the past year! đź’›

When trees or branches need to be removed from campus due to storm damage or other factors, we haul the wood to a lot on east campus. Recently, we had all of that wood chipped on site, creating mulch that will be used in garden beds across campus.

This mulch supply will last our team an estimated two to three years, helping us reduce waste, save money and make the most of our resources. It's just one of the many ways we're working toward a more sustainable campus! 🌱

Last week we had a great meeting with our tree advisory committee, discussing our plans for the year and how we can continue to nurture our trees on campus. This group is an important part of our Tree Campus Higher Education designation from the Arbor Day Foundation, which WMU has received each year since 2008. 🌳

We are so proud to share that one of our custodians, Teri Wagner, was selected as one of four recipients of the annual Make a Difference Award. The award is one of the highest accolades given to a nonfaculty employee at WMU. Recipients are chosen from the semiannual recipients that are selected in the fall and spring.

Teri received the award today at the Fall Awards Celebration. Congratulations, Teri — we are so thankful to have you our team! 👏🏼

We had such a great time today at our FM Employee Engagement picnic, connecting with our fellow coworkers over good food and yard games. The rain may have prevented our outdoor picnic, but we still made the best of our event. Congrats to Glen and Michael who won our second annual co****le tournament!
