The college enrolls more than 1000 students in undergraduate and doctoral programs. The college's graduates consistently achieve pass rates on licensure and certification exams of 98.5 percent or higher, exceeding state and national averages. Nursing Assistant Professor Patricia N. E. Roberson has received a National Cancer Institute (NCI) award for “Conquering Pain Together,” a project exploring how family support can help Appalachian breast cancer survivors manage pain associated with ongoing treatment and improve quality of life.
The award marks the first NCI-funded award received at UT, advancing the university’s cancer research efforts and highlighting the power of nursing research, family support and community partnerships.

Surrounded by nurses her entire life, Kristine Tuttle found her calling in a career that blends science, medicine and meaningful connections. Her experience in the College of Nursing’s ABSN program taught her discipline, resilience, and how to think critically.

When she felt overwhelmed as a student, Tuttle turned her notes and study materials into resources that helped her classmates, eventually launching Nurse in the Making, a business dedicated to helping nursing students find clarity in the chaos.

Today, she’s living her own advice: juggle each task, give it your full heart, then move forward.

“I want Nurse in the Making to be the place you come back to when you're overwhelmed…where you can look at a simple chart or breakdown of a disease or med, actually understand it, and take a breath.”

We are so excited to share that several of our CoN faculty members were accepted into the UTK's Community Engagement Academy for the Fall of 2026.

The Academy aims to impart foundational knowledge of community engagement and engaged scholarship, enabling participants to apply this knowledge in their research and practice. We are very proud of them and their work to improve our community partnerships and engaged work through East Tennessee. 🧡

This fall, Clinical Assistant Professor Leah Apalodimas presented her research at the 2026 Pediatric and Congenital Interventional Cardiovascular Society International Symposium.

Along with this presentation, Apalodimas has a new research publication titled “Transcatheter Patent Ductus Arteriosus Closure in Extremely Premature Infants: Transition to the Bedside.” Her publication can be read in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology: Cardiovascular Interventions or using the link in our bio!
