A new fall semester means a new fall camp! Forestry students visited Briceville Elementary School in Anderson County to teach students last week. It was part of the People and Forestry Practices course led by Professor Neelam Poudyal. They learned how to create educational content for the public, including young learners.

Fall Camp is an intensive set of classes taken by senior forestry and wildlife and fisheries science students. It's taught in a block format, meaning students participate in these courses all day, spending most of their time learning in a field environment. We're almost a week out from the second annual Outdoor Enthusiast Expo, Aug. 28-29, at the Crawford House on the Maryville College campus! The free, two-day event starts with live music from the band Tanis Root on Friday at 6 p.m., followed by a bat hike. The Expo opens Saturday at 9 a.m. with hunting, fishing, mountain biking, kayaking, and hiking activities. People can find information and register for the free event online: tiny.utk.edu/outdoorexpo
Anyone who wants to participate in the kayaking excursion, deer hunting academy or fly-fishing excursion should pick a time when registering because of limited spots. The other excursions do not have a limit.

Great news for our Outdoor Recreation and Park Management students! Learn more about the ORPM concentration: tiny.utk.edu/orpm

The National Park Service has announced a new partnership with the University of Tennessee in Knoxville to help prepare students for careers in outdoor recreation and public land management.

Through UT’s Outdoor Recreation and Park Management program, students will have opportunities to extend their classroom experiences into the real world of natural and cultural resource protection at Big South Fork National River and Recreation Area, Obed Wild & Scenic River , and Manhattan Project National Historical Park. The partnership will include field trips, guest speakers, park programs, expanded internship opportunities, and collaboration on research needs.

The partnership will connect classroom learning with real-world experiences while helping develop the next generation of leaders through the stewardship of natural and cultural heritage in national parks.
