‘Walking the Coastline’ by one of our MA in Fine Arts students, Matylda Jarosz, is a multimedia exhibition based closely on her research project undertaken under the supervision of Dr Matthew Attard, now open at the Malta Society of Arts’ Basement Vaults in lower Republic Street, Valletta, until the end of the month.

The Department had the pleasure of hosting Dott Angelo Crespi, Director General of the Pinacoteca di Brera and Leonardo da Vinci’s Cenacolo. We had the opportunity to discuss Caravaggio scholarship and the strengthening of collaborative projects on Italian seicento art in general.
Photos from Dott. Crespi’s visits with Professor Sciberras to Valletta Campus, to the Oratory of the Decollato, and to the ‘Spirit and Flesh’ exhibition from the NAM Collection (Casino Maltese).

The Department had the pleasure of welcoming artist Arcangelo Sassolino for continued research on Caravaggio’s enduring influence on contemporary artistic practice and modes of expression. Our ongoing project explores how Caravaggio’s radical engagement with the experiential power of the image continues to impact contemporary artistic discourse and visual culture.
Arcangelo Sassolino and Keith Sciberras are pictured here in front of 'St James' by Giovanni Baglione (NAM Collection), on display in the 'Spirit and Flesh' exhibition at The Casino Maltese in Valletta.
Baglione’s famously complex relationship with Caravaggio, marked by admiration, rivalry, and artistic influence, provided a particularly fitting background for reflecting on questions of critical reception, impact and legacy.

We thank Valletta Campus, The Casino Maltese, and Tonio Mallia and Naomi Bajada Young (St John's Co-Cathedral Foundation) for their assistance.
