Dr Marilyn Mallia, cheffe du Département de français, vient de participer à un colloque organisé par le laboratoire FoReLLIS à l’Université de Poitiers, consacré à la figure du méchant dans la fiction.

Sa communication portait sur l’évolution de la figure du méchant gothique, du roman ‘Mauprat’ de George Sand à son adaptation cinématographique muette par Jean Epstein.

Ce colloque interdisciplinaire a permis d’explorer la représentation du méchant dans une grande variété de médias : romans, théâtre, cinéma, séries télévisées, jeux vidéo et même webtoons !

Une belle occasion d’échanger autour des multiples formes que peut prendre cette figure fascinante dans la culture et les médias.

🇫🇷 UM academics follow professional development in French didactics and culture at CAVILAM – Alliance Française, Vichy

Prof. Anne-Marie Bezzina Busuttil, who lectures in French Linguistics within the Department of French at the Faculty of Arts, and Ms Anna Scicluna, Coordinator of the French Subject Area within the Department of Languages and Humanities in Education at the Faculty of Education, recently participated in a two-week professional development course at CAVILAM – Alliance Française in Vichy, France.

Held from 14 to 28 August 2026, the course offered intensive training in French as a Foreign Language (FLE), with a focus on French didactics, language pedagogy and French culture.

The experience provided a valuable opportunity for intercultural exchange with practitioners from around the world, as well as for the development of international professional networks and potential research collaborations.

The training will contribute directly to the academics’ teaching and academic responsibilities at the University of Malta, particularly in the preparation and support of future teachers of French as a Foreign Language, the supervision of postgraduate students in French didactics, and the teaching of French culture.

Prof. Bezzina Busuttil’s participation was made possible through a bursary funded by the Embassy of France in Malta. Ms Scicluna has similarly benefited from Embassy of France bursaries in previous years, enabling her to undertake professional development opportunities in the field of French language teaching.

Plongez dans l’histoire fascinante de Frà Antoine Étienne de Tousard (1751-1813), le dernier ingénieur français au service de l’Ordre de Saint-Jean à Malte.

• Son rôle clé dans le renforcement des défenses de Malte, notamment la conception du Fort Tigné.
• Sa carrière sous Napoléon après la conquête de 1798.
